The trees on Michigan and around the downtown/loop area have little white lights on them for the upcoming holidays.

Several people were gathered watching the painter in the window. Most people moved on and I stayed and took a few photographs. The man in the orange shirt in the background saw me and said something to the painter who turned around and waved to me with his paintbrush. Caught off guard, I gave an embarrassed wave and hurried along.

At Millennium Park the Ice Rink is ready but not open yet. Cloud Gate is hard to photograph in the dark. I think I need to bring my tripod.

Since I walk past the Sun-Times building every day, I thought I’d take some photos of it during its demolition and reincarnation as Trump Tower. Early in the week I took a few more photos of the empty offices inside the building. Employees left their marks, literally by writing on the walls and bashing them in. They may have been bitter about leaving, or because they were threatening to strike.. or maybe they were just like “F-it, this building is coming down anyway.”

Also early in the week, workers started fencing off the area, thus forcing me to change my walking route to get from the El to work. On Monday and Tuesday I could still get through, but by Thursday or Friday the fences were padlocked. The river walk in front of the Sun-Times building is now inaccessible as is the small park next to the building,in front of McDonalds and in between the Sun-Times and the Wrigley buildings. The demolition signs went up on the fences on Thursday and Trump came to town to officially start the tearing down of the building.

Wrigley Blower

Wrigley Blower

Last week I saw this guy in the Wrigley Building courtyard. He was up on a cherry picker with some sort of blowing machine, blowing the dirt off the building’s ornamentation. He looks like he’s wearing a biohazard suit.
