This is Walt and Nick and my second annual migration to Austin to attend South by Southwest (SXSW) 2004. This year Nick signed up for Film, while Walt and I continue to attend the Interactive festival. Also, Ted and Michelle are here this year because a short film they did was accepted into the film festival. So far, so good. It’s great to see Nick and Walt again. I’ve missed them since last year.

PS. Both last year and this year I had layovers in Houston and each time I’ve seen famous people in the airport. Last year I saw Vern Troyer, who plays Mini Me in the Austin Powers movies. This year, completely opposite physically, I saw David Robinson.

Backing Up is Hard to Do

Actually, it’s not the backing up, but the backing up in an organized manner that is hard to do. Many thanks to Walt, Mark & Ted for helping me out with the CD burner and the problems I was having with Ruby recognizing it.

Btw, I’m finding some older photos that I didn’t post when they were taken for whatever reason but that I really like so.. there may be a few older photos showing up here soon. Like this photo of the Holland Tunnel intersection that was taken the day that I got my digital camera. And also this photo that I always liked of Ruby and I. Both of these photos were taken in July of last year.

Brooklyn Bridge Park Summer Film Series

Brooklyn Bridge Park Summer Film Series
Brooklyn Bridge Park Summer Film Series, DUMBO, Brooklyn

This was the second time I saw Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?. The first time was with Mark and Sarah in La Jolla right after it came out and right before Mark moved to New York. Seeing the movie the second time was definitely better. So funny. And Masako and I kept singing all the songs. I’m not sure how I got the mp3s of them.. from Walt, maybe.. i think.

Jeannette was the only one in our group who hadn’t already seen Oh , Where Art Thou? and, in an attempt to gadge whether she liked it or not, Masako and I kept looking over at her every time there was a really funny part. Jeannette has a really low alcohol tolerance level and didn’t seem to be keeping it in check.. in other words, she just seemed drunk… and like she was staring at the screen thinking, “their mouths are moving… words are coming out.. hmmm.. curious how that’s happening… ”

Unfortunately, it was raining during the movie and it started to come down so hard that they had to turn it off and we had to leave early. It was definitely fun, though. The Brooklyn Bridge Park Summer Film Series goes on for 2 more weeks.. grab 10 friends, some blankets, a couple of pizzas from Grimaldi’s and a bottle of wine, and head over!

5 Days & Counting

SXSW

On Friday, I’m going to Austin, Texas to attend the South by Southwest (SXSW) Interactive conference with Walt and Nick.

I’m excited, #1, to go to the conference and to see and hear well respected web professionals and to be immersed in the atmosphere. I’m hoping for it to be completely refreshing and motivating, something that I really need right now.

#2, I’m looking forward to seeing my Californian friends, Walt and Nick, who I haven’t seen for over 1 1/2 years.

SXSWi's Kickball Kickoff#3, on Saturday is the SWSXi’s Kickball Kickoff. It’s “an open-invitation kickball game designed to help (cringe) kick off the festivities at the South By Southwest Interactive Festival.” This should be muy interesting since I haven’t played kick ball since 6th grade.

#4 I’m mildly excited about checking out Austin. I’ve been to Texas a few times and have been unimpressed, for the most part. From what I hear, Austin is very cool – great artistic and music scene, a rising technical center, great places to go out, etc. We’ll see. I think I’m more excited just to get out of the city and the cold for a few days.
