My friend Erin lives about a 5 minute walk from my apartment and we still never see each other. I hadn’t seen her since December, I realize, and it’s March tomorrow. Not acceptable!
A few weeks (a month?) ago we decided we must get together for dinner and literally we had to plan it on the calender..and then? we had to reschedule. We decided to go to dinner at Volo, a restaurant in our beloved neighborhood of Roscoe Village. I have actually only been there one time before when Jess and Jeannette were visiting and I was super eager to go back.
Loved it. I had a great time. I had the aromatic white wine flight even though I’d not planned on having anything to drink. We decided that we couldn’t go to a wine bar and not get wine. Plus, I’d had a sort of stressful day at work. We shared a plate of six artisan cheeses, which were so delicious. We also decided to share the BMG pizza, because it was so great the last time I was at Volo, and really? Can you ever have enough goat cheese? Also, we got the marrow bones. … because.. what the hell! Have you ever had marrow bones? Us either, til now! Honestly, I wasn’t a huge fan. They were alright, but pretty greasy and rich. I was glad to try them and our waitress complimented us on being so brave, but I don’t think I’d get it again.
It was fun to catch up with Erin. I turns out we’re in some very similar places in regard to “big life things” so it was good to talk to someone in the same spot. Next time, I will not let 3 months pass before we have a big catch up. Seriously, I loved the cheese plate so much I feel like we should just have a standing cheese date at Volo!
Here are Erin’s photos from our dinner. We are both always photographing our food. I realized last night that the tables at Volo are very close and we were both photographing our food from each side of the table. It must have looked funny. So funny that the trixies next to us asked us if we were “like reviewers or something.” Reminds me of a funny story from my cookie party in December. I was in the kitchen and Dallas’ aunt came in and said “do those girls in the living room work with you?” I said no. She said “oh! they are all taking photos of the food instead of the people at the party. Just like you do!” I don’t think she quite gets that my food photos at family parties aren’t for work, but it was funny anyway.
