Thanksgiving 2004

Thanksgiving Turkey
Thanksgiving Turkey, Centreville, VA

This was the 3rd consecutive year that I spent Thanksgiving with Kelly, Jeff & Aunt Sue. This year thier friends Larry & Rosa joined us. Let me see if I can think of everything that we had for dinner: turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, mashed turnips, steamed squash, cranberries, coleslaw and Mexican pasta. I might have missed something, not sure. For dessert there was pumpkin pie, apple pie, gingerbread bars with lemon cream cheese icing, both chocolate chip and white chocolate chip macadamia nut cookies, and vanilla ice cream.

My drink at the Melting Pot

On the last night of our Thanksgiving vacation we went out for dessert at the Melting Pot in Arlington, VA. Sue, Jeff, Kelly & I shared the regular sized Bailey’s Irish Cream Dream chocolate fondue (milk chocolate swirled with Bailey’s Irish Cream). For dipping you get two plates filled with fresh strawberries, bananas, and pineapple, plus cheesecake, nutty marshmallows, pound cake and brownies. To drink I had something called the Yin & Yang. On the menu it is described as “The perfect balance of Godiva White Chocolate, Stoli Vanil Vodka, Crème de Cacao, and Ice Cream topped with chocolate shavings to give you peace of mind”. This was my first fondue experience and I don’t think I’ve ever had a better dessert in all my life!!

I was surprised to see that the Melting Pot has a restaurant in Appleton and is opening one soon in Milwaukee. Does anyone know of a Fondue restaurant in New York?

“Mount Vernon was home to George Washington for over 45 years. Here he made his life with his wife Martha, returned from war, retired from public life, practiced pioneering farming methods, and left an indelible stamp of his personality and private tastes. Today, over 1 million people a year visit the estate to find the essence of the man known as the Father of His Country. ”

I spent this Thanksgiving at Kelly & Jeff’s with my Aunt Sue. This is the second year we’ve all gotten together in Virginia to celebrate. Family, turkey, football, and games: these are a few of my favorite things.
