VH1 has this new show on called Rock The House. It’s kind of like Trading Spaces, but someone leaves and a rock star decorates their house while they’re away. There’s an undercover unit that tracks the unsuspecting homeowner while they’re out and reports in to the house crew. In the background they’re playing The Clash and Jay-Z. Tonight there are Hawaiian curtains, goldfish in the coffee table and a rocket ship blasting through the ceiling. Tonight I saw some new Behind the Music episodes on VH1. For a long while I’d seen every episode.. several times.. and didn’t want to watch. Tonight I saw Green Day Behind the Music and Blind Melon Behind the Music. Green Day’s was really cool… how Billie Joe was talking about not wanting to be a 40-year old kid (he’s only 29), about wanting to grow up, to have his music grow up, to be an adult, to be a good husband and father. It makes him so attractive.. and of course Tre Cool always is
.
The Blind Melon story was so sad. There were commericals that the Sublime Behind the Music was going to be on later and I can imagine that their story is similar. In both cases the bands quickly found fame, the lead singers rose up, got involved with drugs, had a kid and died of an overdose just as they were starting to "make it". Blind Melon’s story was mostly the story of Shannon Hoon and I bet Sublime’s was the story of Brad Nowell. Shannon’s daughter was 3 months old when he died and Brad’s son was 1 year. I love Sublime and for the longest time I was so angry with Brad Nowell. I feel myself slipping and becoming a Behind the Music Junkie once again.
