After dinner at In-N-Out and checking into the Hotel Triton we were tired, but went out for just one drink. When John and some other coworkers were in San Francisco earlier in the year for the JavaOne conference, they went to Gold Dust Lounge and that’s where John took us. It’s an odd place. Well-lit, filled with tourists, there are 3 men behind the bar playing crowd favorites, everyone was singing along. Weird place. But fun. After one drink we were all spent, so we went back to the hotel.

If you didn’t guess it from my last post on In-N-Out, the design team is out in California this week, spending our days in Mountain View and our nights in San Francisco. The hotel rooms were actually cheaper in the city than out in Mountain View. Awesome. We’re staying at the Hotel Triton this week, which is way less than the Radisson that I spent a lot of the New York trip at and is about 100% cooler and more clean. Hotel Triton is pretty funky, although I still think I liked the Maritime Hotel in New York better. Too bad I could only stay for a couple nights at the Maritime. I’m not complaining one bit. This hotel is great and way better than that Radisson on Lex.

Jess and Jeannette and I had met up for manicures and pedicures at Lily’s Nail. Then we just walked around and went in and out of some shops. I really liked this perfume at Fresh, Pink Jasmine. I didn’t buy it then because it was a liquid and I only had carry on bags, but I’ll be getting it soon.

We wandered through the Union Square Greenmarket. We then headed south and walked through Washington Square Park and then headed to The Village for lunch.

Chat & Chew

After reaching Union Square I met up with Tien and then Jeannette & Yvan for dinner at Chat ‘n’ Chew, which specializes in “comfort foods”. I have meatloaf with mashed potatoes. After that we went for ice cream (if you know Jeannette you know she always insists on desert) and then went back to the hotel to chill.

Chat ‘n’ Chew had some nasty graffiti outside that I imagine was left by a disgruntled former employee or a customer who found a fly in their soup?

Last night I walked from my hotel in SoHo to Union Square to meet up for a late dinner.

The last time I was in New York I didn’t spend much time in Manhattan. I was mostly in Brooklyn, Queens & Jersey City. Being back here now is making me fall in love with the city all over again. Like when I first moved here. Except now it’s like a comfortable, worn glove. Or an old lover? Make your own analogy. Heh. All I know is that I don’t have to ask for directions and I can actually recommend places to go.
