One story, that is. This week Trump closed on a $640 million construction loan and increased the project’s size. He also had a spat with Daley about whether the building will have a spire on it – Daley won.

There’s so much going on at the Sun-Times construction site and it’s happening so fast right now. It took a long time for the top story of the building to be destroyed and now the layers are just flying off.
There was some water spraying, I assume on purpose?, and it was causing ice to build up on the side of the building, down into the pit in front of it.
The sidewalk is no longer accessible so they had to build a elevated wooden platform walkway so that pedestrians can get through on Wabash. On that platform I was taking some photographs when a construction worker asked me to take his photo in front of the “Tribune Tower”. He got out his camera (a really beat up film camera held together with electrician’s tape) and posed on his ladder. I realized that it was the Wrigley building he wanted his photograph with and I took it for him on his camera.. and on mine. I should have used some sort of flash, but I wasn’t thinking and didn’t have time.

I can’t stop! Yesterday when I was walking by the Sun-Times there was a lot of action going on that I couldn’t resist taking photos of. Especially the welding. There were people welding both in the grids where the street used to be and inside the building.

This might be getting boring for some people, but I still am obsessed with the demolition of the Sun-Times building. Yesterday when I walked by, Wabash Avenue, the street in front of the building, was G O N E.
Also, it seems like the entire top story is almost all torn off now.

The Chicago Sun-Times Building, Downtown, Chicago

Trump Stakes His Claim, Downtown, Chicago
After calling 401 N. Wabash home since 1958, the Chicago Sun-Times will soon find itself homeless. In 2001, a deal was struck between Hollinger International Inc., the owner of the Sun-Times, and Mr. Donald Trump in which they are 50-50 partners in a $700 million new development. The Sun-Times building is scheduled for demolition this year to make way for The Donald to erect a mixed-use, 90 story skyscraper. Chicago Trump Tower will include luxury condos, hotel rooms, office space, a restaurant, retail space, a health club and spa, and a riverfront park. The building will be the 4th-tallest in Chicago and the city will become the first in history with 5 buildings over the benchmark 1,000 ft. mark. The Sun-Times has until September to get out of it’s building and is reportedly going to move to a building in the Merchandise Mart complex that will then be renamed after the paper.
I walk past the Sun-Times building every day. It is hideous and it’d be nice to see something beautiful built in it’s place on the Chicago River, but do we really trust Trump to do that?
