Yesterday most everyone I knew got out of work early. Jess and I both got off at 3 p.m. so we decided to do something different and get drinks at The Terrace at Trump. What a treat! The drinks are pretty expensive, but the view is unmatched. You have to calculate that view into the drink price! The views remind you what a beautiful city you live in.

I stuck to just one glass of Sauvignon Blanc, but Jess and her two coworkers who came with us had some fancy cocktails. Also, I’m glad we came on a day we were off work early. We only had to wait about 10 minutes to get a seat outside, but by the time we left, at about 5 p.m., the inside was packed with people waiting to go out.

IBM Building & Trump International Hotel and Tower, River North, Chicago

A couple years ago I used to walk past the Sun-Times building every day on my commute to and from work. Then it was demolished and construction on the Trump Tower began. I have many photos and updates on my site, but when I got laid off from that job a couple years ago, my regular updates ended.

Recently I’ve started going to the gym 3 times per week. On the way home my walk to the train follows much of the same path I used to take on my old commute. One night I stopped to admire the Trump Tower as it stands now. When the Trump construction site was just a hole in the ground, I’d turn and look up at the IBM Building, and I could not imagine that the Trump Tower could be as tall as it, let alone taller.

I don’t know why it cracks me up that these bags of sand around the Trump construction area are called and sold as “Tubesand”. It seems like one of those things that’s so simple.. and whoever thought of it is a billionaire now.

Also, I noticed that they have a lot of the granite tiles used at IBM plaza stacked up around the site. I’m sure they’ll be fitting them back into place as they continue to finish Wabash Ave.

Wide Angle

Normal Wide

I just got a wide-angle lens for my Canon A95 so I’m just testing out.. getting a feel for its range. I’m seeing the barrel distortion mentioned in some of the reviews on amazon. Still, I think it will probably be good to use for some landscape shots in Hawaii next week.

The photographs in my previous post were taken on my walk from the el to work in the morning, except for the last one, which was taken at lunch. By the time I walked from work to the el in the evening a ton of work had been done. A large chunk of the Sun-Times building isn’t there. It’s like watching them erase the existence of the building alltogether.

Seeing sections of the building just gone stopped a lot of people in their tracks. Also, there was a lot of action with all of the big equipment and construction workers in the pit. Almost everyone coming out of the IBM building after work and walking through the area stopped at least for a few seconds to take a look.
