Sorry, everyone! I forgot to post these photos that I promised I’d post weeks ago. The night before Dallas and I left for Connecticut, I went to a FeedBurner reunion party at De Cero. About 13 of us made it out. We expected more, but it was a busy week for many people. A lot of people who were there I’d seen often at the Google office. Others, I hadn’t seen for a long time, more than a year. Enough time for Adil to have a baby even! As per the FeedBurner tradition, we ordered a ton of guacamole and platters of assorted tacos. It was a fun time and something we’ll have to repeat.

The bride changed into a fuschia party dress. You can see the ties getting looser. More drinks in hand, more mud on feet and clothes. What started out as a completely respectable night got a little crazy!

Matt & Molly’s Wedding Dinner & Reception

June 21st, 2008 · No Comments

Nametags were hung outside the tent on a split-rail fence. When you located your tag you found out what what table you were sitting at. We were at lucky table #13.

Under the Big Tent

As everyone gathered into the tent where the dinner and reception was to take place, it started to rain. And then pour. And then DJ Joe Cool had to unplug all of his equipment because it was thundering and lightening so much that he thought he was going to get electrocuted. Still, no one was really freaking out. They put some flaps down on the tent, threw some mulch down to soak up the rain and wiped off the soaked dance floor. The heavy rain only lasted for maybe 15 minutes, but it was enough to drench a lot of the ground for the whole night. One good thing that came out of it was that it wasn’t just the really drunk people who fell down, everyone was slipping and sliding and had mud on them. There was one particular stretch of grass under the tent that was referred to as “Woodstook.” Unfortunately, that’s where my seat for dinner was located! The most muddy were the guys who decided to try to break dance. And probably Bo who tried many times to do a head spin.

I don’t want to put too much emphasis on the rain, though. It was a part of the night, sure, but no one was really too bothered by it. We all drank and sang and danced the night away without a care. DJ Joe Cool played until 1 a.m., an hour longer than most weddings go, I think. Which could explain how sloppy things got at the end.

I heard that DJ Joe Cool was well known in the area as being the best DJ. A lot of people at the wedding love him. In fact, Anne, one of the bridesmaids, lives in France and got married there.. and she flew DJ Joe Cool out to play at her wedding. Apparently people in her circle of friends in France still talk about him and what a great time they had. I thought DJ Joe Cool was pretty good. Kind of old school. Playing CDs. There was one part of the night where people were kind of annoyed because things like The Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy From Company B should have been played at like 7 pm, not 11 pm, when a lot of the older folks had already left, but overall we had fun. He played a really diverse selection of music, although I think a lot of people would have preferred some more modern tunes. Then again, people were going crazy when he busted out 80′s. Also when he played Pour Some Sugar on me at like 12:30 am, people went ballistic. Followed up by some Guns n’ Roses? Joe Cool knew how to read and please a crowd.

Someone Playing Pool :: Tai’s Til 4, Lakeview, Chicago

On Friday night Barnum & Brian had a going away party at My Bar, which Barnum’s roommate owns, and at which he was able to finagle a $20/all-you-can-drink-for-3-hours deal. We got there a bit late and I wasn’t going to do the deal because it would be hard for me to drink $20 of liquor in 2 hours because I’m a slow drinker.. but I decided to be a trooper and try to drink fast and get my money’s worth. Big mistake.

Also, I was just going to drink beer but in the deal only domestics on tap were included and bleh to that! So I tried to order Bacardi Limon & Coke but the bar didn’t have any Bicardi Limon. So Barnum’s roommate, who was tending bar, suggested Bacardi O (orange) and Sprite. Very tasty. Doesn’t really even taste like liquor. Another big mistake! And after they ran out of Bicardi O, I had Absolut Mandarin and Sprite. . and after that we went to Tai’s Til Four where I switched back to Bacardi O and Sprite. Needless to say that my $20 of liquor ended up in Kristin & Dallas’ toilet at the end of the night. Ew!

Roger the Parking Attendant :: Wrigleyville, Chicago

My colleague, Tom, is in town visiting from Boston so my coworkers and I took him out for a night on the town. Let me clarify.. I’m new to town and Jennifer and Gabe just moved here from Dallas. .. and Tom was visiting .. so a couple Chicago natives took us all out for a night.

We started at Cubby Bear, which is a huge sports bar kitty corner from Wrigley Field. On the way out we had a parking attendant take our touristy photograph. But this wasn’t any parking attendant. This was the perfectionist parking attendant, Roger, who spent 10 minutes shuffling us around trying to make the photo just right. He was cute though. Well.. not like CUTE cute, but he was trying so hard. Most of us then continued on to dinner at Tango Sur, an amazing Argentinian steak house. I had some huge fillet mignon and some spinach mashed potatoes. After this Barnum, John, Tom and I continued on for a couple more drinks and a shot at The Union Tavern where we met up with Brian With 45 Nicknames. And then a quick snack and more drinks at Iggy’s and somehow it was past 3 am and WAY past time to go home.
