Homerun Fireworks :: US Cellular Field, Bridgeport, Chicago

On Wednesday night we took Chris and Tarek, who were visiting from London, and Larry, who I worked with in New York, to a White Sox game. It was my first time to The Cell.

Our favorite beer vendor had a great gimmick where he would yell Beer in a weird voice that I thought was pirate-esque. Chris thought he sounded like somebody’s drunk father and thought his beer sales technique would only be improved if he was a hot blonde-haired chick with big “knocks”.

One surprise was when the Sox made homeruns, which there were several of, fireworks were let off over the scoreboard. The Cell definately feels a lot different than Wrigley, it’s new and has newer amenities, where Wrigley is all about the nostalgia. I’m not a big baseball fan, but I think both of them are fun in their own ways.

Winning Ugly is some White Sox saying from the old days or something. I can’t remember what Greg told me. There was a stand selling sweets right at the top of our section that was called Winning Ugly is Sweet.

The Sox lost to the Angles, the Sox mascot is Southpaw, and, if you didn’t notice, Larry is very flexible.

Irish Car Bomb Finished After a Year of Trying

I’ve been really busy this week with clients in from London, but I had to make time to post this photograph of a life milestone I had earlier in the week. Before yesterday, I’ve had Irish Car Bombs ordered for me and I have attempted to drink them but being the notoriously slow drinker that I am I could never finish them in one swig before the curdling began. Last night was the first time I finished off an Irish Car Bomb and don’t I look proud?

Chipotle

Chipotle

My company worked out some sort of deal with the Chipotle on State/Grand so that when we went in and gave them our business card on Monday we got a free burrito. It was my first time going to Chipotle and now I see why everyone loves it. Now PF Chang’s is the only chain on this list that I haven’t been to. Coincidentally, I’d just read this great article in the Times on Chipotle.

Even though the Chipotle burrito was really good, I don’t think I’ll be going back any time soon. This nutrition calculator says that the vegetarian burrito I had today had 1140 calories, 51 grams of fat, 2,928 mg of sodium and 133 grams of carbs. WAY worse than a Big Mac.

Roger the Parking Attendant :: Wrigleyville, Chicago

My colleague, Tom, is in town visiting from Boston so my coworkers and I took him out for a night on the town. Let me clarify.. I’m new to town and Jennifer and Gabe just moved here from Dallas. .. and Tom was visiting .. so a couple Chicago natives took us all out for a night.

We started at Cubby Bear, which is a huge sports bar kitty corner from Wrigley Field. On the way out we had a parking attendant take our touristy photograph. But this wasn’t any parking attendant. This was the perfectionist parking attendant, Roger, who spent 10 minutes shuffling us around trying to make the photo just right. He was cute though. Well.. not like CUTE cute, but he was trying so hard. Most of us then continued on to dinner at Tango Sur, an amazing Argentinian steak house. I had some huge fillet mignon and some spinach mashed potatoes. After this Barnum, John, Tom and I continued on for a couple more drinks and a shot at The Union Tavern where we met up with Brian With 45 Nicknames. And then a quick snack and more drinks at Iggy’s and somehow it was past 3 am and WAY past time to go home.
