September Walk on Milwaukee Avenue

November 17th, 2011 · 3 Comments

Some photos I took while walking up Milwaukee, between Damen and California, over the course of 2 days in September.

Love is a fragile word

Fuego Mexican closed. I went there twice in the whole time it was open. (1, 2)

Panda in a microwave?

Sort of sorry I missed this Weezer show at the Congress Theater!

Which album would you pick? I think I’d pick Pinkerton.

Mural on the side of the Congress Theater. This changes frequently.

Face? Traditional Mexican art?

Ciudado. Caution. Owl.

Matches the street writing in the first photo. Write your own story. Spin your own gold.

The internet is being very vague about whether or not the Belmont location is still open.

River North, Chicago

My office is located right next to Merchandise Mart but if I haven’t gotten a lot of exercise in a day I’ll sometimes walk up to the Chicago/Franklin brown line stop for my commute home. I’ve been walking past the Aldo Castillo Gallery a lot and seeing these artistic faces drawn in chalk. The gallery’s building is also the one that has the mean goat and sexy mother earth murals. Last night the gallery had signs in the window that said “Store Closing Sale” but I can’t find any mention of the store closing online. Update: Clarified int he comments, Aldo Castillo Gallery isn’t closing, the store upstairs is.

Roscoe Village Street Writing

September 26th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Most of the “street writing” that I see in Roscoe Village is sidewalk chalk done by 5-year-olds, but here are some actual examples. The Solve stencil showed up everywhere a day or two after renowned local street artist Brendan “Solve” Scanlon was murdered in Logan Square in June.

The band stencil was outside Beat Kitchen.

The Garden Walk stencil was for the Roscoe Village Garden Walk.
