Los Bulls vs. 76ers – Noche Latina

April 8th, 2011 · No Comments

One good thing that came out of that WTF night is that at the Association House event both Jess and Sara won Bulls tickets! So, we all three, plus Jillian, went. I’d only ever been to one Bulls game before and it was 6 years ago, so I was excited. And Sara had never been to a game, so she was super psyched.

We didn’t realize that the game was Noche Latina (Latin Night) until we got to the arena. Noche Latina honors the Hispanic community and is presented by the McDonald’s Hispanic Owner-Operators Association (MHOA). The Bulls wore Los Bulls jerseys and throughout the game there was all kinds of stuff going on! The player intros were in Spanish, a mariachi band played the National Anthem, local Hispanic dance troupes performed, and at halftime the flags of 20 Spanish-speaking Latin countries were presented.

You’ll see from my photos that I found a lot of this stuff to be more exciting than the actual game! Blasphemous. Maybe if the Bulls would have won….

Getting Excited!

Really excited! This was Sara’s first Bulls game!

If you can’t understand the audio: 1. Derrick Rose incites screaming and 2. It’s in Spanish.

Muchas Felicidades

Christina and Geoff got married in Mexico. We wanted to go, but it was the day before Danny and Caroline’s wedding, so we couldn’t make both. I knew we were going to gift them money, but still wanted to do something a little special since we were going to miss the wedding. I thought it would be super easy to buy them a wedding card with a Mexican theme or one that was in Spanish. Especially since I live in a historically Puerto Rican and Mexican neighborhood. And there are so many people who speak Spanish in Chicago.

I looked around my neighborhood a bit. I looked while I was at Target. They had Spanish cards there, but nothing that really caught my eye. I looked at Walgreens and CVS. Nada. On a side note, Walgreens had a whole section of cards geared towards African Americans, which I’ve never seen before. I Googled online a ton and looked on Etsy. Nothing was coming up that was really what I wanted. Then, for some reason I can’t remember, I went on Hallmark’s website. Bingo!

Not only do they have a whole line of Spanish cards, but you can customize them with photos and edit the text however you want. I added a photo of Christina and Geoff that I took at their wedding shower.

I also added a photo of Dallas and I and some text on the back of the card.

So, if you’re ever in a bind, try Hallmark.com. Customization couldn’t be easier and the pricing is only slightly more than what you pay in a retail store. I paid less than $4, including shipping.

I had to quick post this before it wasn’t funny any more. I found it a couple weeks ago and thought it was hilarious 1. because it’s en espanol and 2. because it has a burrito, just like lolrachelle. Then we were talking about it this weekend. So, here it is.

I love this menu that was plastered around the neighborhood. It’s for a Chinese restaurant, but it’s translated into Spanish. .. something I’ve never seen done before.
