Snow, didn’t expect to see you this morning!

April 18th, 2011 · 5 Comments

This stinks! I put my hibiscus back outside a couple weeks ago and its been doing great… but not looking so great this morning. AHHHH! I don’t know what to do. I guess if the snow melts off today I’ll put a bag over it to protect it this week. I’ve had this hibiscus for 2 years and it’s almost as tall as me. I’d hate to lose it now.

It should also be noted that one week ago it was 80+ degrees outside and we were all wearing shorts and flip flops. Remember the photos from Quinn’s birthday party? If that glimpse of warm weather hadn’t happened, maybe this wouldn’t feel so depressing!

Two Feet

February 2nd, 2011 · 1 Comment

From last night. You can’t really see it but the wind was blowing SO hard and there was thunder and lightening.

In the morning, very drifty. Five feet in some areas, clear to the sidewalks in others.

Not sure if these guys were getting paid or were good samaritans. They cleared a lot of houses and the street, which was not plowed.

Snowy.

Dallas shoveling.

That black fence is about as tall as me.

Dallas did half and our upstairs neighbor Ben did half.

Good luck getting that out.

For perspective: 1, 2, 3. When I stood in front of the patio doors it was up to my waist or chest.

No idea what happened to the grill cover.

This better not melt into the house!

Dallas walking to dinner.

Yesterday I had a lot of text updates.. today photos. I was skeptical, but it turned out to be as bad as they said.

Experts predict an epic, potentially life-threatening winter storm will pound the region this afternoon.

February 1st, 2011 · 6 Comments

Great. Great. Great. That headline is from the Sun-Times, btw. Bunch of businesses and schools already closed, flights already cancelled, stores out of stock, and the worst is yet to come. So thankful for the Trib’s winter storm survival guide, which includes great tips like this:

“If stranded in a remote area, stomp large block letters in an open area spelling out HELP or SOS and line with rocks or tree limbs to attract the attention of rescue personnel who may be surveying the area by airplane.”

Still, I might head home at lunchtime or early afternoon. What? The news just told me to! Also? That Hawaii trip can’t come soon enough. Get me out of here!

Snow!

March 20th, 2010 · 3 Comments

Two days ago it was almost 70 degrees outside and today it’s snowing and sticking on the ground. This is exactly the weather we used to joke about when I lived in Wisconsin. One day it’s 70, the next day it’s snowing. Ironically I texted my mom in Wisconsin and she said it is sunny and nice there this morning.

I’m not too upset about this weather, though. I’ve been trying to keep in mind that it can snow all through March. Last year I was so mad when it snowed on March 29. The only thing is that we waited out the winter and bad snow for my parents to come and visit this weekend.. the of course it snows this weekend. Oh well!
