Sometimes when I’m going home at night and the weather is nice, I’ll get off the train 1 or 2 stops early and walk up Milwaukee Avenue the rest of the way home. I saw this shoe store on one of those walks.

Too cold now, but in the spring, summer and fall I live in these silver Birkenstock Gizeh sandals . Susan was on our 2007 trip to Hawaii and she had a pair. I was convinced to buy them when we returned. They were expensive, but now that I’ve worn them every other day in warmer seasons for 3 years, they were definitely worth the money. The sole conforms to your foot and makes the very comfortable, they’re very supportive, and they go with almost every pair of pants I own.

I saw these shoes at Macy’s on Michigan Avenue. They’re totally cute/ugly. I was surprised they were Marc Jacobs.

I placed an order for Zappos* at 6:10pm and had the shoes on my feet by 1:00pm the next day. Less than 19 hours from the time I pressed “purchase” to the time they were delivered! And I didn’t pay for shipping, that’s the best part. And if I decide I don’t like them I can send them back and not pay for that shipping either. Zappos is the best!
* Why do we always say “I ordered Zappos” or “I got my Zappos” the same way we always say “I watched my Netflix” or “My Netflix was delivered?” We didn’t order a website, we ordered shoes. We didn’t watch a website, we watched a movie. That’s some good branding Zappos and Netflix have got. … and for one specific thing. Shoes and movies. You don’t say “I ordered Amazon.” That could be anything.

DSW, Lakeview, Chicago
Until recently, I’d only been to DSW one time. It was with Lori and was out in the suburbs. I knew I needed to get some shoes for Molly & Eric’s wedding so I went online and looked up DSW locations and realized that the one in Chicago is right near the Belmont stop on the Red and Brown Lines. So, I went. I found a pair of versatile Nine West black dress shoes that worked out well and also got a cute pair of black & white Rocket Dogs for the spring/summer. Ironically, Lori met me there, so every time I’ve been to DSW has been with Lori. Afterwards we had dinner at Kitsch’n and went to Jen & Chad’s for a while.

On a side note, there was a pair of shoes I saw when we were shopping in Hawaii. They were also Rocket Dogs and had hula dancers on them and said “Aloha.” I didn’t buy them because I didn’t want to carry them in my luggage and then when I got home I looked at them on Zappos but I didn’t know if I still liked them or if it was a “vacation mode” thing. I saw them when we visited DSW and I really did like them, but they didn’t have my size. I went home and Zappos had one pair in my size left, so I got them.
