One Fifth Avenue by Candace Bushnell

I was a huge fan of the TV series Sex and the City, which was based off a book by the same name that was written by Candace Bushnell. Even though the show was on years ago and I loved it, I never read any of Bushnell’s novels before now. One Fifth Avenue is about the residents who live at the address that is the book’s title. It was an easy, end of day, fun read. Like Sex and the City it contained large doses of sex, drugs, gossip, backstabbing, murder, society and New York City.

It turns out that The Maritime Hotel‘s bar and restaurant, La Bottega, is quite a happening spot. Girls come through here dressed like they’re going clubbing and there have been some celebrity sightings too. We didn’t see any on Friday night when all of these photos were taken, but last night I met up with John and his friend Emily for a drink at the hotel bar and they bumped into Isaiah Washington, that guy who made the ruckus on Grey’s Anatomy when he made homophobic remarks to his gay co-actor. Then while we were getting drinks she spotted Josh Pais, who played “The Modelizer” on a Sex & the City episode, and Seth Meyers from Saturday Night Live.

Anyway, these photos were taken on Friday night after we got back from the airport and settled into our hotel. La Bottega has a great big huge patio area with umbrella’d tables that makes it really nice to eat and drink outdoors, so that’s exactly what we did.

It was 2 for 1 Tuesday at Global 33 and still surprisingly empty.

Lot 76 NYC, also known as Manhattan Castle & Prop, is an outdoor antique store that sells everything from vintage signs to statuary to old Coke machines to kitchen sinks.

“Lot 76 NYC also does a booming prop business and has provided props for a number of movies that have been shot in New York City including “A Bronx Tale”, “Addicted to Love”, “Kissing Jessica Stein” and several for the directors Woody Allen and Spike Lee. Several New York City television shows have also used the store for a shooting site including “Law and Order”, “The Conan O’Brien Show” and “Sex and the City” to name a few. Designers such as Ralph Lauren and Kenneth Cole have also called upon Lot 76 NYC to come up with a unique photo backdrop. ” ~Lot 76 NYC website

Jim is a band that’s in town for the CMJ Music Marathon.

This art gallery is in the building that used to be IPSoft. I think it’s called Innovation or something like that. I was sad to see IPSoft close. It used to make me giggle in a really immature 6th-grader way every time I walked past it.

Photo Friday: Found

Discarded Glasses
Discarded Glasses, Hudson River Park, West Village, Manhattan

This week’s Photo Friday challenge is Found. I was eating lunch at the Hudson River Park when I noticed that someone had left their glasses on the decorative buoy next to the bench I was sitting on. To the left in the photograph is Manhattan’s trapeze school where a recent episode of Sex & the City was shot. To the right is Lower Manhattan and the Hudson River.

Past Photo Friday challenges I’ve participated in:

- Urban, 05/12/2003
- Shadows, 04/28/2003
- Water, 04/22/2003
- Skin, 04/11/2003
