Cubs vs. Braves

June 11th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Jen, Chad and I were at Sports Corner having a beer and waiting for Paul Baker to arrive. The game started and immediately Atlanta scored 3 points. I thought the Cubs were done for. We went into the game and Atlanta only got two more runs during the game. The Cubs ended with 10 runs to win!

Killian and Liz had their wedding rehearsal dinner at The Batter’s Eye at Wrigley Field. Part of the deal was that we got to go into the stands and take photos. It was really super crazy to be in there when it was empty. Usually there are so many people you can’t walk. So weird to see so many empty seats.

On Sunday Dallas and I went with Chiristina and Steve to see the Cubs take on the Astros. By some kind of coincidence I have seen the Cubs play the Astros at least twice and even saw the Mets play them once. Dallas teases that I’m secretly an Astros fan. I’m not a huge baseball fan but I do really enjoy getting out to a game or two each season. Sunday was the perfect day. Sunny, the Cubs won, peanuts, hotdogs and lots of beer. Lots. Especially since none of us had eaten any sort of meal all day. Afterwards we had the best intentions to go to dinner, but Christina and I had to use the bathroom really bad so we had to stop at Guthries. Had to. And then Brian and Jill came in, they were at the game too, so we had to have some drinks with them. Finally we made it to Tango Sur and had some really great steaks that, after all of that beer, we totally didn’t appreciate the quality of. Fun day, though!

Homerun Fireworks :: US Cellular Field, Bridgeport, Chicago

On Wednesday night we took Chris and Tarek, who were visiting from London, and Larry, who I worked with in New York, to a White Sox game. It was my first time to The Cell.

Our favorite beer vendor had a great gimmick where he would yell Beer in a weird voice that I thought was pirate-esque. Chris thought he sounded like somebody’s drunk father and thought his beer sales technique would only be improved if he was a hot blonde-haired chick with big “knocks”.

One surprise was when the Sox made homeruns, which there were several of, fireworks were let off over the scoreboard. The Cell definately feels a lot different than Wrigley, it’s new and has newer amenities, where Wrigley is all about the nostalgia. I’m not a big baseball fan, but I think both of them are fun in their own ways.

Winning Ugly is some White Sox saying from the old days or something. I can’t remember what Greg told me. There was a stand selling sweets right at the top of our section that was called Winning Ugly is Sweet.

The Sox lost to the Angles, the Sox mascot is Southpaw, and, if you didn’t notice, Larry is very flexible.
