Just came across this photo that was taken earlier this year at Doug & Naoko’s Labor Day party (and Aunty Gail’s surprise retirement party. I thought Heather, Dallas’s cousin’s wife, took it, but she’s in the photo, so I’m not sure who did. This is most of the people at the party. You can see me, in the back, tip-toeing and still shorter than the 13-year-old behind me.

New Years Day

Jeff and Heather always host a big party on New Years Day for all of their family and friends. Dallas and I are usually about 50/50 on going depending on what happens the night before. This year our New Years Eve was mellow. We were up late (didn’t get home and to bed until 3:30 a.m.), but we weren’t hung over or anything. That and the fact that we haven’t been to Heather and Jeff’s New Years Day party for a year or two, made us decide to go. There was much food. I love Auntie Gail and Heather’s pork shumai. It’s sooo good. I must have eaten 20 of them. The rest of the food is mostly all Japanese and is also very good. Saimin, sashimi, cone sushi (another favorite), maki rolls, salad.. all homemade by Dallas’ aunties and cousins. We played a lot of Wii this year, as has been the case at many of the parties we’ve been to lately.

Today my dad came down from Wisconsin and I surprised him by having breakfast ready when he arrived. We had Double Cinnamon French Toast, Fruit Salad with Honey-Lime Dressing, turkey sausage, and peanut butter cup cookies. Later on we went to Ikea. I needed to buy bookcases and realized that after I unpack my books from the boxes that they’re in I’d no longer have a living room table. My old table was two boxes of books with two shelves balanced between them. So I bought a table too. So far I only have the table assembled. Anyone want to help put together bookcases?

I Think We Can Fit More In, Ikea, Schaumburg, IL

Long ago in days of yore
It all began with a god named Thor
There were Vikings and boats
And some plans for a furniture store
It’s not a bodega, it’s not a mall
And they sell things for apartments smaller than mine
As if there were apartments smaller than mine

Ikea: just some oak and some pine and a handful of Norsemen
Ikea: selling furniture for college kids and divorced men
Everyone has a home
But if you don’t have a home you can buy one there

~Ikea by Jonathan Coulton

Last Tuesday, March 2, Nancy came down from Milwaukee and we took the UHaul that I had not yet returned to Ikea to do some shopping. This was my first trip to Ikea ever and it was just a bit exhausting. Each night for the past week now I’ve been assembling pieces of furniture. Soon I’ll post photos of each of my Ikea projects. Oh, and Kristin thinks that with the Uhaul I could have gone around the neighborhood and gotten paid to take orders from Ikea and make deliveries to my neighbors. Not a bad idea.
