Makai’s Busy Social Weekend

July 20th, 2014 · No Comments

Friday Night: Dinner outside with Jen and Quinn at their house. Lots of high fiving and dancing.

Saturday Morning: Early morning date with Ellyza and Loden at Little Gym. We attended a free introductory class where Makai sat there and looked at me like “Really? I got outta bed early for this?” To be fair, I think he did have fun some of the time. But we had to be at the gym at 8 a.m. and he usually sleeps til 7:30, so yeh. Up early. Also, he’s been kind of a daredevil and has banged his face (split lip, eye bruise, bleeding teeth) a few times this week. It kind of annoyed me that once he was in a padded space he didn’t want to do anything! I think he just needed more time to warm up to the place and the people. If we went every week, I’m sure it would be way different. As long has he got his venti latte on the way!

Saturday Afternoon: Barbecue at Danny, Caroline and Rory’s new place in Riverside. Such a big house and a nice yard! It was great to check it out. Trent, Loden, Ellyza, Jen, Chad and Quinn all came out too. Danny grilled pork tacos and they were so delicious. Makai and Ellyza had fun chilling out in the pool while Quinn and Rory ran around like crazy! Oh, and there’s a funny kissing cousins photo of Rory and Makai that will someday be used for blackmail purposes :)

Sunday Afternoon: Cousin Alexia’s first birthday party! Got to see lots of Dallas’s relatives that we haven’t seen since Christmas time. And we got to see Danny and Caroline and Rory again. And Cory, who lives in Colorado and we haven’t seen for a couple years!

We caught up with many friends this weekend and had a great time!

Kid’s Fun Fest at Liberty Bank

May 9th, 2014 · 1 Comment

Last month my parents and Jessica came down and visited for the weekend. Liberty Bank, in Logan Square, was hosting a free Kids Fun Festival and a band called The Dreamtree Shakers was playing so we went to check it out. The Dreamtree Shakers are a kind of alt-folk kiddy band and at least one of its members has a history with the Old Town School of Folk Music. I think it might have been a little too “kiddy” for Jess, but Makai loved it. It was kind of strange to sit in a bank and watch a band, but it was a pretty cool thing for Liberty Bank to do and a lot of people packed in with their kids!

After the show, we walked over to Radler for brunch. This has become a go-to for me for brunch because 1) it’s great and 2) I’ve never had to wait. Nothing like German beers and milk bottles!

Later on we took Jess and Makai to see the Easter Bunny in Roscoe Village. It was a nice day and we had the stroller so we walked all around and popped in and out of the stores. Jess ended up getting this cool Badgers hair bow.

Makai Meets the Easter Bunny

April 16th, 2014 · 3 Comments

Over the weekend some of my family visited (more on that later) and my mom and Jess went with Makai and me to meet the Easter Bunny in Roscoe Village. There was no line or anything, he was just hanging around outside of Village Paperie, which was perfect. It was 76 degrees outside, so we took Makai for a visit and then took a stroll around. I was afraid he would be afraid, but he wasn’t! Yay. The little bunny was a gift from grandpa and grandma.

Jess didn’t really want to go by the Easter Bunny, but he got her in the end!
