A Visit to the Mass Gen ER Before Heading Home

September 4th, 2008 · 2 Comments

The day after Rob and Colleen’s wedding we all got some free hotel breakfast and then started parting ways. We dropped Billy at the Portland airport where he was catching a flight to LA for business. The rest of us drove to Boston. Killian and Liz then rented their own car and continued on to see a friend in Connecticut and Liz’s brother in Brooklyn. Ging was working in Boston for a few days and took the T to meet some friends.

Dallas and I planned on having dinner with Ross, Matt and Molly and then catching our flight from Boston to Chicago. One little thing. When we got to Ross’s house in Beacon Hill he didn’t feel well. His shoulder hurt… like really bad. Turns out he’d dislocated it. He’d done it a few times in the past and is to the point where it comes out easy, I guess. We all walked him down to the emergency room at Mass General and sat there as long as we could with him. I’ll spare Ross the embarrassment of posting the photo I have of him in a wheelchair.

While waiting we looked at photo albums from Matt and Molly’s wedding, which we attended in Connecticut in June. Finally we had to leave to catch our flight. We stopped at Anna’s Taqueria, Dallas’ favorite, to grab food to eat at the airport and then went home.

Peaks Island

While sitting in Portland, Maine drinking beer and eating lobster outside was nice, Billy, Ging, Dallas and I ultimately were going to Peaks Island. This is where our friends Rob and Colleen live and where we’d be staying. Killian and Liz were visiting with us, but staying on the Portland side. They also had separate plans because it was Killian’s birthday. We called ahead and ordered a pizza from Flatbread, one of Billy’s favorites. Then around 7 we grabbed our pizza, bought ferry tickets, went to the dock and took the ferry over to Peaks Island. Colleen was also catching that ferry and so was Rob’s sister, Sarah. We all enjoyed pizza and the sunset views. The ride is about 20 minutes. Every day Rob and Colleen either kayak or ferry to Portland for work. A different sort of commute, for sure.

Portland Lobster Company

Portland Lobster Company, Portland, ME

We just arrived back from the East Coast and are settling back in here at home in Chicago. We had a great time in Maine and so much fun seeing friends we don’t see often enough.

These photos are from Portland Lobster Company in Portland, Maine. Dallas, Killian, Liz and I flew into Boston and drove up to Portland, where we picked up Billy and Ging Ging from the airport. We wanted to sit outside somewhere and drink a beer after the long drive.. maybe eat a little seafood… lobster. Portland Lobster Company fit the bill perfectly. They had a long pier with tons of seating and pitchers of Shipyard, a locally brewed beer, on special. We split a few lobsters between us and sat in the sun. Very relaxing.
