Also, when we left we passed a Korean Best Buy inside the store.

Korea Times newspaper.

In preparation for my birthday barbecue back in September, Dallas and I went shopping out at the Super H-Mart in Niles. This Asian supermarket reminded me a lot of Mitsuwa, except that Mitsuwa is more Japanese and Super H-Mart is more Korean. (See my visit to Mitsuwa here.) But, it’s basically the same concept. Huge grocery area, a section of rice cookers and housewares, other stores around the edges, a liquor store, and a food court. Differences I noticed at H-Mart were that the produce section was really huge, in the other retail stores area there was a Best Buy with everything in Korean, and the seafood area had live fish.

Cherries & a Peach

Every day in an effort to stave off afternoon sweets attacks, I make a fruit bowl for my desk before I leave the cafeteria after eating lunch. Today I had cherries and a peach. Yesterday I had raspberries, blueberries and a banana.

The awesome, awesome Adam was kind enough to open up his Park Slope garden on Monday and grill up some pizzas for us. They tasted great. The dough was nice and soft inside and crispy outside. Perfect. Each pizza had varying toppings like basil, Portobello, pepperoni, grated mozzarella, fresh mozzarella, garlic, hot peppers. Adam took requests and even made some without cheese for lactose-intolerant Jake. The last pizza we made for desert was butter, cinnamon, and brown sugar sprinkled on grilled peaches.

I’m pretty sure Adam needs to get out of the corporate world and open up a grilled pizza restaurant.

Haute Grilled Avocado & Grilled Peach with balsamic & blue cheese
Haute Grilled Avocado & Grilled Peach with balsamic & blue cheese

Tonight I actually got some motivation and put together the grill I bought a few weeks ago. I decided I wanted to grill some fruit so I looked up some recipes and instructions. The Grilled Peaches with balsamic and blue cheese were tasty. A good combination of sweet and bitter and spicy. I think I needed to put a bit more cheese on them. I liked the Haute Grilled Avocados the best. You can see the Grilled Plantains with Spicy Brown Sugar Glaze are missing. That’s because no matter how long I left them on the grill they never reached the soft, darkly-carmelized state described in the recipe. Any suggestions? I think they may not have been ripe enough.
BTW, you can’t get plantains in the downtown, State St. Jewel, but the one in Wicker Park, which is surrounded by a large hispanic population, has a ton of them. Not that Jewel is the best place to be buying produce.. just saying..
