Lunch at The Windsor

4 Star Restaurant Group, owners of Remington’s, Dunlays on Clark, Dunlays on the Square, D.O.C. Wine Bar, Frasca, Crosby’s Kitchen and Smoke Daddy, are opening a new restaurant, The Windsor, in Streeterville, near Northwestern. Their first official day of service is Thursday, July 23.

Our friend Josh is one of the 4 Star partners and yesterday I got an early peek at The Windsor, along with Kristin, Jessica and Katie, for a friends and family preview lunch. Dallas is going with some friends for dinner tonight. They’re doing these practice runs all weekend to get the kinks out. Each table had a limited menu to order from, and the menus were different from table to table. This helped the kitchen practice making all of the different menu items. There was one appetizer, four entrees, and a dessert on our test menu. We just got everything and shared it.

Here is what we had:
SPINACH ARTICHOKE DIP fresh tortilla chips
CAESAR SALAD romaine, parmigiano reggiano, sourdough croutons
TURKEY BURGER housemade, ginger, soy Asian slaw, marinated tomato
BUCATINI bacon, tomato sauce, red onion, pecorino
SLOW ROASTED PORK chermoula rubbed, dried apricots, parsley almond relish
KEY LIME PIE fresh whipped cream

As for the full menu (view it here) , I think they took some of their best sellers at other places and added them to the menu here, and then did a few unique things just for The Windsor. Overall, the food was great. We especially liked the turkey burger, surprisingly. The slaw was awesome and it was a very flavorful sandwich. Fries were great on that one too! And the key lime pie was SO good! I thought the service was pretty good, for being one of the first runs.

So…. check it out! The Windsor, 160 E. Huron Street.

Makai’s First Photo Shoot

When Makai was two days old Bella Baby Photography came to our hospital room to do a photo shoot. The shoot was free, but the photos, of course, were only available for a price. I ended up buying the digital package so I could have the photos and do whatever I wanted with them. Here are a couple of my favorites, though it was hard to choose!

Spindrift Soda

I remember seeing Spindrift soda somewhere and I was going to get it, but it was expensive. Like. Really expensive. The other day when we were at Prentice we got lunch at Saigon Sisters and they had Spindrift there. I decided to give it a shot and really liked it… but I’ll probably rarely get it… since it was something like $3.25 just for one bottle of soda. Still, very good, all natural. If you see it for less, get it!
