Easter Dinner With The Webers

April 5th, 2010 · No Comments

Dallas and I don’t usually celebrate Easter. I don’t think we have for years. This year we were invited to 3 different celebrations. One was in Wisconsin and we couldn’t go because we’d have to stay overnight and Dallas already had Saturday night plans. One was out in the suburbs but was an Easter egg hunt. Not that we don’t want to see Dallas’ family in the suburbs, but an Easter egg hunt is not totally up our ally. The third invite was to Kristin’s apartment, which is only a few miles from our house. I think we have a winner!

Kristin’s family was visiting from Galena. When we arrived the kitchen was in full force and Megan was setting the table.

Kristin was in the kitchen cooking up a storm.

We asked if we could help, but there wasn’t much to do without getting in the way, so Dallas watched basketball. . .

. . . and Limey concentrated on holding up the wall and drinking his wine.

When the ham was ready Mr. Weber got to carving it.

Then Ryan and Megan got the ham and Polish sausages ready to be served at the table.

Mrs. Weber fed Reese early so that she could nap a little while the rest of us ate. She loves ham and the sauerkraut pierogi.

Dinner time!

This is everything we had.

My plate.

And this is what we had for dessert.

Oof!

After our feast Reese got to dig into the Easter basket that the Easter bunny somehow left at Kristin’s house.

We hung around a bit longer but had to get home and sleep off our food comas! Dallas and I were both out for a while in the evening. Thanks to the Webers for inviting us to a delicious Easter dinner!

I came across this photo on my phone. I think it was taken when we went to The Long Room for Trent’s birthday in January.

Trent’s Birthday

January 18th, 2010 · No Comments

On Friday night Dallas and I went out to The Long Room for Trent’s birthday. We had a fun time drinking from their extensive beer list and visiting with friends, but it made me nostalgic for the T&A parties we used to have. Our friend Allison was born on the same day of the same year as Trent and they used to have combined “T&A” parties. Here’s 2006, here’s 2007. Then Allison moved to San Francisco and that was the end of that!

Walking over to The Long Room from the train, I passed by Diner Grill. If you know any of my friends then you will be shocked to hear that I have never been here. Especially if you know that Dallas used to live only a few blocks away. Actually, Jen and Jill have somehow never been to Diner Grill either. We had a pact to go on Jill’s birthday in 2008, but then there was a fire and they were closed for a while. The night of Trent’s birthday Ed was pressuring Jen and I to go, but we have a pact with Jill and couldn’t leave her out. Someday I’ll go there. And I’ll order the famous slinger!

Tributosaurus Does Tom Petty at Martyrs’

December 31st, 2009 · No Comments

Last night Dallas and I went to see Tributosaurus play at Martyrs’ with about 15 of our friends. This was my view (on the right). Mostly Christmas decorations with the band in the background! HA.

Tributosaurus plays at Martyrs’ the first Wednesday of every month and they assume the identity of a new band every month. Dallas has seen them play as Hall & Oates. A bunch of our friends went to see them when they were Michael Jackson. Next month they’re doing Prince. Last night they were Tom Petty. I can’t say I’m a big Tom Petty fan, but there were a lot of songs that I knew. Also cool last night was that Liz’s brother Greg was in town from LA and sat in and played with the band. He killed on guitar!

I had fun last night, but I’d love to go back and see Tributosaurus again when they play as an artist I love.

About a month ago I noticed I was getting referrals to my site from Glenn’s Diner. Glenn’s is a restaurant I really enjoy, but I didn’t know why I’d be getting hits from their site. Futher investigation revealled that I’m listed on their brag page, along with Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, Check, Please! and Chicago Magazine, to name a few. Flattering… now I need to figure out how to work this into a comp meal! :) Kidding!

If you haven’t been to Glenn’s, you should go. It’s a great casual seafood restaurant located at the Montrose Brown Line station. Every day they have 16 different kinds of seafood that are flown in fresh daily and they are always priced under $20. Dallas and I have recommended Glenn’s to everyone we know and have been there several times. Here are a few of our visits:

- When Cinnamon and Erin and I went for all-you-can-eat king crab legs (Tuesdays for $33.95)
- With Dallas, Jill, Brian and Kristin
- When Rob was in town to do the sailing Race to Mackinac with Killian we went along with Dallas, Liz and Christina

Dallas and I just watched the clip from when Glenn’s Diner was featured on Diners Drive-Ins, & Dives. Guy spent a lot of time with Executive Chef David Najman in the clip. When I met Cinnamon and Erin for dinner at Glenn’s I was really early so I sat at the bar and had a glass of wine. It was a bit of a wait to place my drink order because the restaurant was slammed. The guy that ended up serving me was Chef Najman. We chatted for quite some time. When Cinnamon and Erin arrived he got each of them a glass of wine as well. In the end we had to wait a little bit, not too long, for a table, and so Chef Najman didn’t charge us for our drinks. Totally unnecessary, but it was a nice touch. He also stopped by our table a couple times to make sure everything was good later on. So, as you can see, not only does Glenn’s have great food, but great service from the top down as well.
