Glenn’s Diner

February 4th, 2012 · No Comments

Back in November or December I realized that I hadn’t been to Glenn’s Diner for a long time, so I emailled some friends who we usually go there with – Jen, Chad, Kristin, Brian, Jill – and tried to arrange a date. It all got lost in the holidays, but in January we rescheduled. This week we made or visit.

We tried to think back to when the last time we were at Glenn’s and it was June 2010 for Jen’s birthday! One and a half years ago! Such a shame because I love Glenn’s. The seafood is always so fresh and delicious. I had scallops with a mushroom, bacon sherry cream sauce. ZOMG. So delicious. And Glenn’s doesn’t skimp. I had six huge seared sea scallops. YUM. Dallas, Chad and Jen got the all-you-can-eat shrimp, which is a Thursday night special.

What a fun night to hang out with everyone. And Halle and Quinn were our constant sources of entertainment, of course. Can’t wait to go back!

Green Mill

June 14th, 2011 · No Comments

Ross and his girlfriend Chelsea were in town this weekend. We met up with them at Ribfest, where it was rainy and only about 50 degrees outside. When Ross flew in on Wednesday for work it was 97 degrees. He didn’t even pack a coat. Little did he know how fickle Chicago weather is!

We wandered around Ribfest for a while, drank some beer. Dallas and I stopped to talk to Josh at the Smoke Daddy booth. We also shared some kalbi ribs (and both agreed that when we make them they are better!). To use up some tickets and get out of the rain we had some corndogs and onion rings.

We then met up with some other friends – Todd, Brian, Sara, Brett – at Corner 41, which was kind of a mistake. It was nice to get out of the rain, but the bar had pretty much run out of beer. We bought their last 5 Coors Lights and they were all warm. I hate Coors Light, but I put it on ice and it actually was not that bad. Honestly, it tasted like water.

Chelsea used to live in Chicago and wanted to take Ross to the Green Mill, Chicago’s historic jazz club. I’d never been there and also wanted to go, so I tagged along. It was pretty cool, even if you’re not that into jazz, you should go once. That night’s jazz quartet consisted of drums, bass, and two saxophone’s. The band was called Mike Reed’s People, Places & Things.

We only stayed for a drink and one set, but it was enough to get a feel for the place. Ross and Chelsea went back to their downtown hotel and I went back to Logan Square where I met up with Dallas for a late night beer and slice of pizza at Boiler Room.

Cho Sun Ok

May 18th, 2011 · No Comments

A few weeks back we went out for dinner with Christine and Adam at Cho Sun Ok, a Korean barbecue restaurant. Christine is Korean and unlike Dallas, who is half Korean, she speaks fluent Korean. Dallas only knows a handful of Korean food-related words, even though his mom was born there.

Christine ordered all of our food for us. We had a ton of Banchan, kimchi stew, and a super delicious pajeon (scallion and egg pancake). For our main entree we barbecued slices of beef on the grill in the center of our table. Everything was really delicious, even if I don’t know what it all was! Christine basically just rattled off a bunch of Korean words and food kept coming and coming to the table.

At the end the waitress took all of our leftovers and dumped it in the grill, then dumped rice on top of it and let it get all toasty. Then stirred it up to make the best fried rice ever!

Crepes a Latte

January 22nd, 2011 · 2 Comments

While waiting for my car to get serviced at Nal’s, I decided to check out this place just across the street and down a bit called Crepes a Latte. I got the marshmallow latte and a dark chocolate raspberry crepe. I thought both were delicious.

The cafe is really cute inside. Very whimsical. The storefront is really wide and all along the front window they have a counter. On the counter they have built in iPhone charging stations, which I thought was pretty cool.

Check it out next time you’re on Irving Park Road there, or heading to the Irving Park Brown Line.

Nal’s Auto Repair

January 21st, 2011 · No Comments

Dallas’s Uncle BB’s friend Al has this place on Irving Park Road called Nal’s Auto Repair. I don’t know why it’s called Nal’s when his name is Al, but whatever. It’s where we take our car for servicing. Actually, where Dallas takes it. I took it one time in November and that was the only time I’ve been there!
