Yesterday I had to go downtown so I met up with Alden and Jessica to celebrate Potbelly Wednesday on a Tuesday. Jess made a comment when we walked into Potbelly that inside it “smells like FeedBurner.” I couldn’t agree more. We went to Potbelly every week when I worked at FeedBurner and the smell and memory will be tied together for a very long time.

Berry Chill, Near North Side, Chicago
After Alden and Jessica went back to work (ha ha) I went to try out Berry Chill, which is our version of Pinkberry. I visited Pinkberry once while visiting New York back in November and really liked it. I couldn’t remember exactly where Berry Chill was so I just used Google SMS to figure it out.
Berry Chill is basically the same as Pinkberry. The inside is set up the same. You order on the right, slide to the left past the toppings, pay and pick up your order on the left. There are very few tables inside and a couple outside. I accidentally got the pistachio yogurt, which is the only one with fat in it. For toppings I got raspberries, almonds and mini chocolate chips. I didn’t taste the tanginess that I remember in the Pinkberry yogurt, but it may have been because I got a flavored yogurt and not the original. I’ll have to go back! Too bad it’s way down on State & Ontario.

One thing I liked about Berry Chill is that they used plastic, reusable dishes and spoons. Nicer to eat with and better for the environment. Also, the spoon changed color when it got cold.

Old Style Buildings, Near North, Chicago
I used to walk by these buildings on Chicago Ave. (just west of Michigan) on a semi-regular basis. On the first floor and in the garden units, it’s mostly the same run-of-the-mill shops but the storefronts look cute, at least I always thought. I mostly always walked on the same side of the street as the buildings, but once a couple months ago, I walked on the opposite side of the street and realized just how much I really like these buildings and how much they stand out.

Front Entry, East Ukrainian Village, Chicago
The first winter storm of the season is always brutal but yesterday’s seemed especially bad. It was BARELY above freezing outside and there were very strong winds. This meant that the snow was really wet and freezing cold and that at times it was hard to walk because of the powerful gusts. I came home soaking wet and left most everything I was wearing and carrying in the front entry.
I live on the blue line, the line that goes ot O’Hare, and on the way home the trains were filled with people with luggage. It will be interesting to see how my flight goes today!
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.
