Last week I was getting stir crazy and needed to get out of the house, so I went to the Adler Planetarium. It was freezing out, but sunny with blue skies. The Adler’s building is interesting, it’s not like spectacular, but I have a soft spot for planetarium domes.

I’ll have more photos from inside and views of the city skyline coming up.

Jessica, Rachelle, Stephanie :: Shedd Aquarium, Museum Campus, Chicago

From January 14 – 20th the Shedd Aquarium is offering free general admission. The regular entrance fee is $23/adult and $16/kid, so Richard, Amanda, Stephanie, Jessica, Nancy, Josh, Riley, Melissa, Nick, Noah, Trinity, and Gabe came down from Milwaukee to join me in facing the cheapskate crowds – you had to constantly remind yourself to be tolerant or you’d go freaking insane but we still had a fun time anyway.

Other aquariums I have been to – Birch Aquarium at Scripps in San Diego, SeaWorld San Diego, SeaWorld Orlando, the Seattle Aquarium, the New York Aquarium at Coney Island, and Oriental Garden in Chinatown (ha!). Shedd was probably the best of them all, although I did really like how the Seattle Aquarium had an area where you could touch things like rays and sea anemone and sea cucumbers.

Since I can’t switch modes on my camera without using a modified paperclip, which is very easy to lose, I’ve developed a new photography technique. I put the camera on the mode that lets you take multiple photos by holding down the button and then I hope that one of them turns out. Later on I find out the truth. I was able to manage a couple all right photos.

Mondays and Tuesdays are still free at The Field Museum so I only had to pay for the special exhibit, Jacqueline Kennedy: White House Years, that I wanted to see. I’m no Kennedy-phile, but the exhibit gave interesting insight into how Jackie presented the Kennedys, as well as America, to the world with her grace and fashionable style.
