Monkey King Cake
Monkey King Cake, The Loop, Chicago

I walked past this Chinese bakery on Tuesday and noticed in the window that they have a cake in the shape of the Monkey King from my nightmares! (sorry for the poor quality of this photo)

Here’s a funny movie clip of Tien and Jeannette at dim sum:

With the temperature outside at 8 degrees, we opted for Vietnamese coffee instead of ice cream!

Finally we got to the parade route where we met up with Jen and Jake. Everyone there was setting off confetti bombs.

On a sidestreet, Tien points out a Chinese character that says “Mao”.

As we start to make our way to the subway to go home, no one seems to care if we walk right beside the parade. This is where we get the best photographs.

Going home on the F Train.

After dim sum at Jing Fong, Eleanor, Jeannette, Yvan, Tien, Shannan, Jessica and I met up with Jen and Jake on the parade route to watch the Chinese New Year festivities. What a great way to celebrate my chinese-ness, or lack there of! My goal of the day was to see some dragon dancers, which I’d never seen before. Luckily, there were several of them. Unluckily, the temperature outside was about eight degrees. After an hour standing outside I could no longer feel my extremities and my camera was whacked out so we left.
