Recently we tried a few new things at Revolution Brewing. Dallas had an Octoberfest special, the schnitzelwich sandwich. It was served on a house-made pretzel with saurkraut, pickle and lemon aioli. I had a bite and loved how the saurkraut and pickle contrasted with the schnitzel. And it was HUGE. We took half of this sandwich home.
On the same day, I tried a sundae made of chocolate-hazelnut ice cream, cherry compote, honey-glazed walnuts, marshmallows and hazelnut hot fudge. This was pretty good too. I went to Margie’s the next day, and I must say, in contrast, the Rev sundae was just the right size and did not make you feel disgusting after eating it! Just the right richness and lightness.
Finally, a photo from a recent brunch with my parents. My dad and I tried a new dish on the brunch menu, hush puppies. I liked them, but they were more like cornmeal doughnuts, with powdered sugar and honey, than savory hush puppies.

Last weekend we got our baby furniture for the baby’s room. Big thanks* to Vanessa and Damien (and Derek!) for passing it on, and to my brother for helping transport it all. It was nice to get the furniture in place so that we could finally sort through all of the baby stuff that we’ve just been piling in the room. Since I took this photo we have rearranged the furniture a few times, but hey, it finally looks like a kid’s room. I have bedding on order and still need to hang artwork, but… YAY! for progress!!
Also, I recently came back across this photo I posted when we announced I was pregnant. I remember feeling like a whale at that time and now I look back at it and think how small and cute I look…. compared to this (photo taken last week, at 37 weeks):
* Also, thanks to my mom, who handmade a lot of the things in the room and my dad, who did the awesome paint job!

Dallas and I are both lucky enough to still have baby blankets that were handmade for us when we were born. I can’t remember who made Dallas’s Mickey Mouse blanket, but my Aunt Connie made my Raggedy Ann and Andy blanket. It was my all time favorite as a kid and I still use a blanket of similar construction (two sheets sewn together with a batting in between) every night.
Last year my mom somehow found the exact same Raggedy Ann and Andy sheet set from the 1970s online and in perfect condition on EBay. She didn’t know it then, but I went ahead and bought it. This year I asked her to make a blanket for our baby and surprised her with the vintage fabric. The blanket turned out great and just like my old blanket, except it looks brand new!
I don’t plan on trying to get our kid get into Raggedy Ann or Raggedy Andy or doing a room in this theme, but this is a good sized blanket to have around and I think it makes for an awesome keepsake!
