This weekend is the NATO summit in Chicago. It’s a big deal, to say the least. All week long there have been protestors in The Loop and nearby my office. This photo was taken on Monday outside of the Prudential building, where Obama’s Chicago headquarters are located. Eight people were arrested. The Prudential building is 2 buildings away from the building my office is in.
Aside from the protesters, all week long we have had quite a show of military drills, fly bys and news copters. Remember the awesome view we have from the 40th floor? It’s a great view of air activity as well, we’re finding. A couple guys even have binoculars to get a close-up view of the action. (Check out the description of one of the drills here.)
Lucky for me, I am flying out tomorrow for a weekend in New York and I’m working from home on Monday, so I will hopefully miss most of the real action. This week has been enough!

It’s a beautiful day outside. Danielle and I decide to leisurely stroll over to the 508 Cafe and get some wraps for lunch. After we get them we decide to walk another block or two over to the water’s edge to eat outside and enjoy the day. It’s sunny and warm, there’s a slight breeze, the water is calming. In the distance you can see the Statue of Liberty on the skyline. We sit down and open our lunches up, fully enjoying this perfect weather, when suddenly there is a deafening roar. Helicopters patrolling the island. And then 3 more. And they’re not just regular ones.. they’re those military ones you only see on TV. It was at that moment that I realized this whole new threat to New York is so very real. While the military patrolling Manhattan should be comforting, I found it to be so unnerving. Freaky. It made me anxious. I wanted to leave.
