AllSaints

October 23rd, 2011 · 1 Comment

I was on Michigan Avenue a few weeks ago and noticed this new store, AllSaints Spitalfields. Very unique. I didn’t see too many people going in and out. I checked out their site later on. Expensive! Like $60-130 for a graphic tee. And I didn’t even like any of them! This store is a UK import.

Lincoln Park Manhole on Michigan Avenue. Why?

October 19th, 2011 · No Comments

I took this photo by accident one day while I was shopping on Michigan Avenue. When I discovered it later, I liked it, so I decided to post it here. But does anyone know why the manhole says “Lincoln Park” when I was on Michigan Avenue?

Out With Clients & Coworkers

August 6th, 2011 · No Comments

We had clients in for UAT this week and on Wednesday night we all went out for dinner and drinks.

We had dinner at Public House, just down the street from our office. I ordered the chicken burger and it was amazing. I have to have it again to make sure it’s as good as I remember. My coworker Jaivin was in town from Boston and I made him sample a bunch of local brews. Local-ish. I tried to drink a light beer myself, but he made me drink the locals with him. Also, I only wanted short beers, but the waitress kept bringing talls. We had Bell’s Oberon, Three Floyd’s Alpha King, and Founder’s Pale Ale. Actually, now that I look, those beers are all from Michigan. Still, Jaivin can’t get them in Boston.

Our clients were visiting from different parts of the country – Washington D.C., Virginia, St. Louis, and the Dayton area. They’d heard about Billy Goat Tavern and wanted to check it out. We told them not to expect too much! We were just there to see it and have on beer then we were on to the next place. I had not been to the Billy Goat for years (2005!) so it was cool to check in again.

Somehow our clients knew that Howl at the Moon, the dueling piano bar, gave discounts for the military. A lot of our group had the required ID (not me!) and got in for free and got discounts on drinks. Like the Billy Goat, I hadn’t been to Howl at the Moon for years (2005!). It was fun, but after a while I had to get out of there. I should have gone home but Jaivin told me that he went to Mercadito once with Marlena and Anjum once and it was delicious so we decided to stop there for one last drink.

I had this cucumber drink and I did not like it! Thanks, Jaivin. I think I went to bed at 2:30 that morning and got up at 6:30 to be to work for 8:00 a.m. meetings. I functioned better than expected, but was so tired. That night I totally crashed out after work all night. I’m not 21 any more!

The Art Institute’s Modern Wing & The Gage

May 24th, 2011 · No Comments

Last week Jess and I attended a Gapers Block meet up in the Modern Wing of the Art Institute. I’d never been to the Modern Wing, though it’s been open for about 2 years now. We all met at the Modern Wing’s Caffe Moderno for drinks and mingling. Jess and I hadn’t seen each other for a while, so we caught up over our first beer – Metropolitan Brewing’s Krankshaft – and then mingled for the second beer. Mingling is always easier on your second beer. .. even then, I’m awkward! At 6:45 we got a special tour of the Hyperlinks: Architecture and Design exhibit. Pretty interesting. It was only after we were getting the tour that Jess realized she’d already seen it! Oh well. Oh, also? It was one of the very last free Thursdays.

After visiting the museum, Jess and I went to get dinner at The Gage just across the street. I’d only been to The Gage once and it was just for an hour-long cocktail reception, so I was excited to give it a try. We split Vindaloo Mussels with toast, long toast, and Chips (Fries) with Curry Gravy. Oh, and we also got Duck Fat Nuts for an appetizer. I don’t know exactly what this means. They just tasted like nuts. I liked the vindaloo mussels, but with the curry gravy, it was too much curry. We ended up getting ketchup for the fries.

Our Wedding Cake

August 9th, 2010 · 7 Comments

Riiiight… just like these are our engagement photos. I don’t think we’re even having a wedding cake, but this cake in the window of 65 Chinese Restaurant on Michigan Avenue was too crazy to pass up.

I need to go back and take some more detailed photos. I don’t think you can really appreciate all that is going on with the bridges and fake little people all over this cake. It’s so over the top!
