Professional Wedding Photos

March 30th, 2011 · 1 Comment

We were lucky enough to have Steve Koo, an award-winning Chicago photographer (and friend), come out with us to Kauai and photograph our wedding. Steve did such a good job on our engagement photographs in Logan Square. I was excited to see what he’d come up with for the wedding.

We could not be more happy with how Steve captured the spirit of the day and all the little moments and emotions. We love Steve’s style, how saturated the photos are. It went really nicely in the tropical setting. I could not pick just a few favorite photos from the day, so I posted a whole bunch below!

For a more behind-the-scenes account of our wedding day, check out this post.

Easter Dinner With The Webers

April 5th, 2010 · No Comments

Dallas and I don’t usually celebrate Easter. I don’t think we have for years. This year we were invited to 3 different celebrations. One was in Wisconsin and we couldn’t go because we’d have to stay overnight and Dallas already had Saturday night plans. One was out in the suburbs but was an Easter egg hunt. Not that we don’t want to see Dallas’ family in the suburbs, but an Easter egg hunt is not totally up our ally. The third invite was to Kristin’s apartment, which is only a few miles from our house. I think we have a winner!

Kristin’s family was visiting from Galena. When we arrived the kitchen was in full force and Megan was setting the table.

Kristin was in the kitchen cooking up a storm.

We asked if we could help, but there wasn’t much to do without getting in the way, so Dallas watched basketball. . .

. . . and Limey concentrated on holding up the wall and drinking his wine.

When the ham was ready Mr. Weber got to carving it.

Then Ryan and Megan got the ham and Polish sausages ready to be served at the table.

Mrs. Weber fed Reese early so that she could nap a little while the rest of us ate. She loves ham and the sauerkraut pierogi.

Dinner time!

This is everything we had.

My plate.

And this is what we had for dessert.

Oof!

After our feast Reese got to dig into the Easter basket that the Easter bunny somehow left at Kristin’s house.

We hung around a bit longer but had to get home and sleep off our food comas! Dallas and I were both out for a while in the evening. Thanks to the Webers for inviting us to a delicious Easter dinner!

The apron went back on at about 1 a.m.

Finally, six months after we moved in, Dallas and I had a housewarming party. We had between 25 and 30 friends over for tons of food and drinks. Some people came over in the early afternoon to watch parts of the Cubs game with us. After that we spent lots of time on our deck above our garage because it was a gorgeous sunny day. When it got too cool we headed inside. There was a short round of Rock Band. Others started a card game that lasted well into the morning hours.

Thank you to everyone for helping us celebrate our new home. We are thankful for having such great, fun, generous friends and for being able to spend time with you all.

Catching up With Molly, Megan, Scott & Sophia

This week we got to catch up with Megan, Scott and Molly. … and Sophia! The last time we saw everyone Sophia wasn’t born yet. Megan played Guitar Hero at with us when she was pregnant. Maybe that’s why Sophia was so happy to be at our house watching everyone play Rock Band. At first she was sleeping in her car seat, but who can sleep through the rockin’? She woke up and was all smiley like in the photo above. Later on I was holding her and she was happy as can be. Good baby. Big. Sophia is 3 months old, but I couldn’t believe how much bigger than Kenji she was. Hard to believe that Kenji will probably be that big by the time we see him next. Babies grow fast!

This past weekend we hung out a lot with some of Dallas’ friends from college. Molly was visiting from Saratoga Springs, NY where she is now an exercise science professor at Skidmore College. Megan was in the city from a little closer.. the suburbs.. where she teaches 3rd graders. Also? She and her husband Scott are expecting their first baby. So exciting.

On Saturday Molly & Megan met up with us in Roscoe Village and we had a nice dinner at Piazza Bella, followed by a few drinks (not for Megan) and a lot of Guitar Hero at our house. While we were eating that night Megan mentioned that she and Molly and Scott were going to Fogo de Chao on Sunday and of course Dallas had to get in on all that meat action. For those of you who are unfamiliar with these popular Brazilian barbecue places, basically you pay a flat rate. Then you have this little coaster that’s red on one side, green on the other. Flip it with the green side up and you will be bombarded with meat. When you’ve got enough or need a break, flip it to the red side.

The first time I went to Fogo de Chao I wrote that I thought it was a place that you’d only be able to visit once or maybe twice in one year, but I’ve already gone twice this year. Besides this past weekend, I went a few weeks ago with some work associates. They were in town from Tokyo and we wanted to give them a unique experience that they couldn’t get at home. I think we succeeded.

Anyway, it was nice to see Molly and Megan and Scott again. I’m not sure when we’ll see Molly (and hopefully her husband Eric, too) next, but we vowed to see Megan and Scott more, since they’re not too far from us.
