On the Fourth of July we drove down from New Hampshire with Matt, Molly,Lucy, and Buddy to Norwell, MA. This is where Matt’s parents, Luanne & Marty, live. Dallas has spent many an Independence Day at Marty & Luanne’s house. Looking back, I spent the 2004 holiday and 2007 holiday there. It seems like more. As I told Luanne, in our hearts we spend every Fourth of July there. It’s what we tell people. We go to Norwell/Boston for Fourth of July. In reality, we get there as much as we can. It’s the effort that counts, right?

We spent the day swimming in the pool, playing a little bit of frisbee game, and relaxing. Marty made his kielbasa that he is known for. The secret ingredients are mustard and honey. Then he just keeps it hot in a pot. So good. He also grilled up some delicious cheeseburgers, which were served with potato salad. Very traditional, it sure hit the spot! I hadn’t had a cheeseburger or potato salad forever.

Aside from the holiday, it was Adam’s birthday on July 3 and Molly’s on July 4, so Luanne made her family’s traditional blueberry crumbcake. It was so delicious. She also served strawberry shortcake. Dallas took the strawberries from that and put them on top of his blueberry crumbcake and then topped that with whipped cream. Also, Matt gave Lucy some of the cake with whipped cream. She loved it. They really try to restrict her sugar intake, so I think she was just amazed!

On this holiday the party was smaller, mostly family, a few friends. But that does not mean it was not fun. It was great to be able to see Marty and Luanne again and to hang out in the sun and in the pool and with all of the family for one more day before heading back to Chicago.

The best photo of the whole night. Don’t ask me what’s going on!

Dallas’s friend Josh is one of the owners of Frasca, just down Roscoe from Jen and Chad’s. For New Years Eve they closed at 10 p.m. and Josh hosted a private party, so we left Jen & Chad’s party and headed over to Frasca. The party was $60 for all you could drink and eat from 10 p.m. – 2 a.m. Not too bad of a deal. We had a fun time ringing in the new year!

On Saturday night Brian and Sara hosted a holiday sweater party. I’d heard about this theme for a party, but had never been to one. I wasn’t sure what to wear so I just picked up a sweater at Target when I had an errand to run there. Dallas’s sweater was actually cross-stitched by my mom, which everyone thought was super awesome. Although we were both told that our sweaters were not ugly next time we should try to ugly it up more!

P.S. There may have been a 3 story beer bong at this party, but I’m not gonna post photos or name names about what went on with that! LOL

Halloween House Party

October 31st, 2010 · 2 Comments

I wasn’t going to do anything this year for Halloween because I knew that I had to go to Wisconsin that weekend to work on our wedding invitations. Also, I don’t usually do much for Halloween. It’s not really my thing. So, I got invited to a few parties and I turned them down. It figures then that Dallas came home Thursday night all excited to go to a friend’s Halloween party! When he showed me the emailled invitation it read as though the party was really just a pre-party and that they’d be going out to bars or other places later on. I bought a witch hat and figured I’d pre-party and when everyone left I’d go home at a nice and early time. Of course, everyone was still pre-partying at midnight when I hit a wall and had to leave! I had fun, but, luckily I was not drinking because we drove so I was not hungover the next day and we got all of the wedding invitation stuff done.

Doug & Naoko’s wedding was on Saturday. The ceremony & cocktails afterwards were at The Drake Hotel, which is like the oldest, most famous, most luxurious hotel in Chicago. It was gorgeous. And Naoko looked beautiful in both her kimono and her white wedding gown. The ceremony itself was a mix of American, Buddhist, and Japanese traditions. After the ceremony and mingling around with drinks we headed over to Gibson’s Steakhouse for dinner and the reception. I have a ton more photos of that. I’ll be posting them soon.
