Cory & Chris’s Wedding Reception

July 2nd, 2009 · 1 Comment

Cory and Chris’s wedding reception was held at Maxim’s de Paris in the Gold Coast. It’s a unique venue, decorated in the stylin’ art deco style. Cory wrote a bit about Maxim’s here if you’re interested.

After busting open the sake and cutting the cake we all had dinner and drank and ate and drank and drank and danced and danced and drank and danced and danced. It was a super fun time. You can tell from everyone’s huge smiles in the photos below.

The bride changed into a fuschia party dress. You can see the ties getting looser. More drinks in hand, more mud on feet and clothes. What started out as a completely respectable night got a little crazy!

Everyone was fearful that it was going to start raining right when Matt and Molly’s wedding ceremony was about to begin. But it didn’t. We got through the ceremony and then once we were all under the tent, it down poured. Sound familiar?

Matt & Molly’s wedding was beautiful.. and good thing that it didn’t last too long because it was HOT. There were a limited number of chairs that mostly older guests and people who needed to be up front sat in. Otherwise we all just kind of stood around casually. There was supposed to be a cocktail hour after the ceremony, but everyone started drinking from the bar beforehand, so half the people were standing around watching the ceremony with glasses of wine. .. er.. um… not including me?

All of Molly’s nephews and nieces had parts in the wedding except for the youngest, Annie, who is only about 4 weeks old. Buddy and Bella are Matt and Molly’s dogs and they were also a part of the wedding. .. whether they knew it or not. Matt’s good friend Bo read a Native American Prayer and Matt’s sister-in-law Sarah read the Song of Solomon (2:10-13). Molly’s friend Emily played cello during the ceremony. Matt is half Jewish so his grandmother, Shirley, read a Jewish blessing and then he did the thing where he stomps on the glass. The bride and groom kiss and then we were out of there. Even though we only had to walk about 10 steps to get drinks at cocktail hour and then 20 more to get to the big tent set up in the yard.

On the day of Matt and Molly’s wedding some of the gusy… Dallas, of course… went golfing with Matt in the morning. Molly’s father George took them to a half course at Hotchkiss, the school Molly attended. I chose instead to just rest up because I knew it was going to be a long day and night. Matt & Molly’s wedding was to take place at 4:30 p.m. which meant that everyone needed to eat lunch then get ready for the wedding. One of Molly’s mom’s friends graciously invited everyone to her house for lunch. House… err. . Estate?

For days we’d been driving down the same small roads through Lakeville and Salisbury and Sharon and commenting on the architecture and how beautiful it was and the size of the yards and the enormity of some of the houses. There was one in particular that Ross was admiring every time we passed it and wouldn’t you know it. .. that’s the house we had lunch at. To call it a house, though, seems like an understatement. This was one of the biggest houses I’ve seen let alone been inside and the sweeping vistas and views in the backyard were breathtaking. Everyone just spontaneously started lining up and taking photos back there. Oh, and the big pool and hot tub and separate pool house? That’s where Matt & Molly were going to stay the night of the wedding. Later on I heard they were totally set up with candles and champagne and everything there. So nice.

Our hostess couldn’t have been more down to earth and kind. She walked around barefoot with a Corona Light in her hand making sure everyone was taken care of. We had an appetizer of endive leaves with smoked salmon and capers on them. For lunch we had a dilled cucumber salad, a lettuce salad with tomato aspic, and a pastry chicken bake. It was just enough to satisfy our appetites, but not make us too full for the rest of the day. A good way to relax before things started getting crazy!
