Coronavirus Quarantine Week 10: May 17 – 23

I’ve been so worried about my hardy hibiscus coming back but I can finally see some little nubs poking out of the ground!

We ordered from Pizza Art Cafe for the first time and were surprised at how delicious it was!

Nothing will really surprise you on video conference any more! You have to just go with it.

Mayor Lightfoot ain’t playin’!

Nothing like getting sprayed with the water hose while you’re on a conference call.

After 3 depressing days of rain, we moved my office and Makai’s classroom out into the sun.

Our neighbors, Andy and Aly, told us about a new restaurant that opened a few blocks away. Bryn Mawr Breakfast Club apparently is a popular restaurant in Bryn Mawr. They opened a Belmont location.

In early May Gov Pritzker announced different regions  in Illinois and the phases of reopening.

Dallas and I agreed that we trust Lightfoot and Pritzker and will follow what they say, but many others do not feel the same and want things open NOW.

The state announced plans to start opening up and lifting quarantine on May 29, but Mayor Lightfoot announced shortly after that it was not happening for Chicago.

It was very confusing.

Some businesses, like the place Dallas and I both get our hair cut, announced opening on May 29 then had to resend emails to say it wouldn’t be until early June.

Makai in math class.

Memorial Day weekend with nowhere to go and nothing to do. Trying to somehow make this holiday weekend exciting. Makai is soooo excited for movie night and camping in the basement with his tent and sleeping bag. Makai wanted me to sleep on the couch by him. Within an hour we were both sleeping in the guest room.

Makai pretending to be productive but really just playing in the water.

Dad made this squirrel feeder and mailed it. I finally attached it to the fence today.

Dad also sent me a BUNCH of canna bulbs. I planted 15 along the garage.

10 more cannas along the fence.

I splurged and got four pints of Jeni’s ice cream delivered. It was expensive, but worth it!
We did not think we’d get a stimulus check, but then it showed up.

We used to make this dinner often years ago. This time Dallas grilled the chicken and I made the Israeli couscous.

Urban oasis is coming along. Dallas doesn’t understand why I needed to order some outdoor pillows with orange on them!

I walked a mile to Jimmy John’s to pick up a mobile app order. They wouldn’t give me a bigger bag so I had to walk a mile home like this. I was also carrying a thermos of iced coffee. Needless to say, the sandwiches were squished. I was proud to say I didn’t drop any chips though!

While we were at 6 corners we took a while to look at the murals that were recently done to address the state of the world today. Pritzker

And then one of Makai checking out a sculpture. Note: The restaurant in the back that says “we’re open” opened during the pandemic and closed shortly afterwards. Sad.

I love the mural on the side of Las Palmas on North/Wolcott. You can’t read it, but above some of their heads there is a quote by Bob Marley: “Rise all freedom fighters, rise and take your stance once again.” Also, there’s a key to everyone shown –

Emiliano Zapata :: 1879 – 1919 :: Mexican Revolution
Subcomandante Marcos :: ? – Present :: Zapatista Movement
Aung San Suu Kyi :: 1945 – Present :: Burmese Revolution
Bob Marley :: 1945 – 1981 :: Social Revolutionary
Martin Luther King Jr. :: 1929 – 1968 :: Civil Rights Movement
Mahatma Gandhi :: 1869 – 1948 :: Indian Independence
Che Guevara :: 1928 – 1967 :: Cuban Revolution
