Bon Voyage!

February 12th, 2011 · 3 Comments

Last night Anjum and Aimee (and Garrett and Eric for a while) took me out for some after work drinks to wish me bon voyage and best wishes on the wedding. We were going to get wine and cheese like we did when I got engaged, but the place we wanted to go to didn’t open early enough. So we ended up just going next door to Moe’s Cantina, which is just fine for after-work drinks, but I heard gets extra douchey later at night.

Most people were drinking red sangria, but since I’d just been to the dentist to get my teeth cleaned a few hours earlier, I stuck with the clear liquors and drank caipirinhas and margaritas. We also figured we needed to do a shot. I suggested SoCo and lime, which is my new favorite shot, since Josh got it for us last weekend.

Just a few days to go now. Lots of errands to run this weekend and a few loose ends to tidy up. Packing Monday/Tuesday and then we’re off!

That Went Downhill Fast

May 25th, 2008 · 3 Comments

One night last week Alden and Justin and I decided to go out for a nice nostalgic dinner at De Cero. When we worked at FeedBurner in the West Loop, we’d always go to De Cero when new people were hired or anytime we wanted to go for a nice lunch.

Justin was in town for the first time since he moved to San Francisco so we caught up a lot on what’s been happening since he left. It was a good time, but 2 pitchers of margaritas and 4 shots each of Petron Silver later and we were at the cheesiest bar ever singing karaoke!

Also, fyi, if you’ve never actually paid for anything at De Cero, like us because we were always there for work functions, it’s really expensive! Like really expensive. Like $35 for one pitcher of margaritas and more than $10 per shot. I’m surprised that I wasn’t shocked sober when we got the bill. Instead I just ordered The Pain Killer at the next bar and told them to make it strong.

Singing the Humpty Dance with Alden. I thought that waving my hands in the air like I just didn’t care would get the crowd worked up. Something tells me it did not.

I was really excited to sing What I Got by Sublime.

Time to Go Shopping

Jumbo Margaritas
Jumbo Margaritas, Cafe El Tapatio, West Lakeview, Chicago

Late in the day, I went to the restroom and noticed a nice big hole in the butt/crotch area of my favorite pants that I was wearing. I was devastated but at the same time relieved. These are black slacks that I can throw on with anything. They can be dressed up, they can be dressed down. And they’re so comfortable. I started thinking about when I got them and realized that I bought them in California at least 3 years ago. They were a gift from an ex who had bought me a gift certificate for Express. Express pants obviously don’t last forever. About 5 months ago the hem fell out of these pants and I safety pinned it back in so I could keep wearing them. It was time to let them go, but I wouldn’t. Now I will for sure.

Ten minutes later I put my favorite winter wool coat on and headed for the door. At the door, my coat got tangled into the handle and the bottom button went flying off. My favorite coat is now wrecked along with my favorite pants. This is a coat I got at a JCrew warehouse sale out in the middle of the summer out in Cape Cod in 2002. I know I can put a button back on, but when I started thinking about it I realized that I’ve been wearing this coat every day of the winter for 2 winters. The lining is ripping in it and next year I should probably get a new winter coat.

Kristin’s response: To take me to her favorite Mexican hole in the wall, Cafe El Tapatio, order jumbo margaritas, and say “We need to go shopping, girl!” The food at Cafe El Tapatio was delicious.. even more tasty and authentic than the TexMex I’d just had in Texas.

Gringo’s

September 4th, 2001 · Comments Off

We gave Gringo’s in PB a try tonight. Very unlike the typical PB restaurant/crowd. VERY GOOD Margaritas and Fajitas! They have many specialty Margaritas and over 100 tequilas in stock. And double score – I have a TV here now! Borrowing it from a friend.. yay!
