I have no idea who this guy is, but I insisted we get our photo taken together.

Saturday night we went to a party at Charles and Alpana‘s place. I was surprised at how many people they packed into their condo, but before long we saw people we’d met at their place before, ran into people we knew from other places, met a few new people, and ended up having a great time. I knew Fausto and Marc from my FeedBurner days. They had made these Aretha Franklin inauguration-style paper hats that everyone was having fun wearing. It was nice to catch up with them again. At the party, I sure did not eat enough food and drank way too much sparkling wine. Luckily Dallas was feeling charitable Sunday morning and made me English muffins, eggs and breakfast sausage.

After getting back to Seattle from Orcas Island, Joanne took us to Ray’s Boathouse for dinner. The seafood was excellent and so was the view. Then we met up with Marc, Larry, and Buckey at Joanne’s to have a little housewarming party. Joanne just moved into her studio in the Queene Anne neighborhood of Seattle a few weeks ago. Marc & Larry are Joanne’s friends and Buckey is their 14-year-old Golden Retriever. Buckey is bilingual. He also goes by the name of Tito. He grew up on a sugarcane farm in Puerto Rico and mostly only obeys commands in Spanish. “Tito, aqui”, for “Buckey, here!” Later on we went to Golden Gardens Park where we drank a bit more wine and sat around a bon fire on the beach.

On the way back up

Snow Lake is a secluded lake in the Alpine Lake Wilderness in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualamie National Forest in Washington State. The lake is fed from melted snow on the surrounding mountains. Joanne, Jeff’s sister, took Jeff, Kelly and I to Snow Lake along with her friend Marc. To get to the lake you must drive about an hour outside of Seattle and then hike up a mountain, about 3 miles and then hike down about another half mile (7 mile hike, roundtrip). Once at the lake, we ate a picnic dinner that Joanne had prepared for us. It was just enough energy to get us back 3 1/2 miles over the mountain to the car. Kelly and Jeff and I were glad that this was our first hike of the trip because it made every hike after it seem easy. Working so hard to get to the lake just made it that much more beautiful, though.
