Yesterday Billy and Josh ran in the Chicago Marathon. Both finished at just under 5 hours. Crappily, we missed them on the route, they were going faster than we’d expected and by the time we got to 18th and Ashland they’d already passed. We figure we probably missed them by only 5 minutes or less. After showering we had a post-marathon lunch of champs at Popeyes (I had Subway, but still.. ). Later on we went out for drinks and dinner. We wanted to have them go out to a neighborhood spot, but since they could barely walk from running the marathon, we ended up going to Rock Bottom, which is near their hotel. Still had a great time. It was fun to see them again and to meet new friends.

Last year when my parents were in New York running the marathon they met Sue Longbottom, the president of the ING Ottawa Marathon, at the marathon expo. They got to talking about how my parents both run marathons and it came up that this year would be my parent’s 30th wedding anniversary. Sue said that this year was also the Ottawa Marathon’s 30th wedding anniversary.. and the anniversaries were within days of each other. Mom & Dad had been trying to decide how to celebrate their anniversary and it’s just they’re style.. they flew up to Canada, were interviewed for some news articles, and ran the marathon to celebrate. The weather was gorgeous, they wore signs on their backs that said “Married 30 Years to Him/Her”, and my mom finished with a personal best time. Oh, and the marathon was on May 30th, coincidentally.

Congratulations to my mom and dad both on finishing yet another marathon and for staying together for 30 years!! You make us proud!
