Lost Party

May 24th, 2010 · 3 Comments

On Sunday night we had several Lost fanatic friends over for hours of Lost fun. Starting at 6 p.m. there was a recap show and then from 8 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. was the series finale. For fun I put some Dharma Inititative labels on some beer in our fridge. I also printed out some Lost Bingo cards and a Lost drinking game sheet. We didn’t actually play Bingo or do the drinking game, but they were fun to read and consult during the show.

I’ve been reading online about people not really getting the finale or getting it but really hating it. I think I’m fine with the outcome. It’s not really where I thought the show was going 6 years ago when we started watching, but I’m ok with it. I think I like it more as it sits with me. I am sad though, that it’s over. I moved to Chicago 6 years ago. I’ve been dating Dallas for 6 years. We’ve watched this show together for 6 years. And now it’s over. Also, for the last 2 years we’ve always had people over to the house to watch Lost every week. Now that standing date is off.

Also, Paul Baker and Kate came to our house newly engaged. Like only hours engaged. Congratulations again, guys!

And if you are interested, this is probably one of the best Lost series finale recaps I’ve read.

Lost Final Season Premiere

February 3rd, 2010 · 2 Comments

Last night was the season premiere of the final season of Lost. This show has been on for almost as long as Dallas and I have known each other and we have always made it a priority to watch it together. We’re excited for the final season to finally pull things together and reveal some secrets, but I’m kind of sad that it’s ending!

On Our DVR

We record the series (automatically records every time it’s on) for all of these. There are a lot, but some of these aren’t airing right now. They’re still in the list so that when the new season starts it will start recording automatically. We limit the number of times a show can record before deleting the oldest to 5 shows. I like having a lot recording because then when nothing is on you have a whole queue of shows to pick from.

  • The Simpsons (3 times/day plus the new ones on Sunday night)
  • Lost
  • American Idol
  • Scrubs
  • Heroes
  • How I Met Your Mother
  • The Office
  • Top Chef
  • Mad Men
  • Fringe
  • It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
  • Magnum P.I.
  • Survivor
  • The Beast
  • Oprah Winfrey
  • 30 Rock
  • My Name is Earl
  • The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency
  • America’s Next Top Model
  • Flight of the Concords
  • Amazing Race
  • The Daily Show With Jon Stewart
  • Better Off Ted
  • Dhani Tackles the Globe
  • Eastbound & Down

Anything we should be watching that we’re not? There are a few shows we watch a lot that we don’t record. Not sure why.

Tropical Burgers & Lost

Tropical Burger, Roscoe Village, Chicago

Last night we had a few people over to watch the Lost season finale. We grilled out and had these tropical burgers with a slice of grilled pineapple, grilled onion, tomato, and lettuce. I don’t know why my bun was upside down.

March Madness @ Messners

On Thursday I avoided watching basketball because it was “Lost night.” On Friday I avoided it by playing Rock Band with Paul and Kate. By Saturday there was no avoiding it. A whole lot of our friends were all at Messners watching all of the games. It was a nice day out. I enjoyed sitting in a sunny window and talking with friends, but I could really care less about basketball. After a while I walked over to Anthropologie, which I’d been eying across the street from the window I was sitting in, for a shopping break. Then back to basketball for a couple more hours. For dinner we ordered in with Jen, Chad and Quinn.

I only had a second to take this photo in a giant mirror we were facing. I think it sums up our day, but I was a little disappointed that my camera focused on the people behind us instead of us. I hate it when you want a do-over like 12 hours later.

Also, check out all the hammered brass decorations. It’s like Messners bought a bunch of stuff from Tre Via when they went out of business or something. I was texting Erin about it and sending cell photos because she knows the guy who owned Tre Via. I can’t remember if this is how that place actually looked inside, but I remember the exterior being kind of crazy and in my head it made sense. Then again, this image is proving the crazy exterior memory wrong, so maybe I’m thinking of someplace else altogether. Then again, the internet wayback machine is proving me sort of right. Aaaaaaannnnywayyy…
