On Friday night we celebrated Danny’s 30th birthday by taking him out to Ruth’s Chris steakhouse. I’ve been to Ruth’s Chris a few times but I’m not a big steak eater, so I got seafood… which killed Dallas. This time, though, I got petite fillet with some grilled shrimp on the side.. so a little seafood, a little steak. After dinner we went to Riverview for a while. It was a fun, chill night.

I tried to take photo of Danny and Lori together, but it didn’t work out, so you’ll have to like them separately.

Dallas Has a Bike Now Too

Dallas’ Bike

Last weekend I got a bike and this weekend Dallas did. We’d both been talking about getting a bike for so long that I think that my actually getting one was the little extra shove he needed.

This morning we met up with Danny and Lori for brunch at Sola (saw Top Chef contestant Dale Levitski working there). Afterwards we went to look at some bikes at On The Route, the same place I went for my bike. The difference is that I was there for about the whole day riding bikes and hemming and hawing about what I wanted and Dallas went in, looked around for about 10 minutes, rode a bike and bought it.

I’ve been back to On The Route two more times to get a helmet, a chain to use with my U-lock and a basket for the front. Today I did a test ride downtown to the office so I could see the route before tomorrow morning. I really like the thought of biking to work because it’s just as fast as taking the train or the bus and it also allows me to fit my workout in without adding more time to my day.

DSW Makes Me Dizzy

DSW, Lakeview, Chicago

Until recently, I’d only been to DSW one time. It was with Lori and was out in the suburbs. I knew I needed to get some shoes for Molly & Eric’s wedding so I went online and looked up DSW locations and realized that the one in Chicago is right near the Belmont stop on the Red and Brown Lines. So, I went. I found a pair of versatile Nine West black dress shoes that worked out well and also got a cute pair of black & white Rocket Dogs for the spring/summer. Ironically, Lori met me there, so every time I’ve been to DSW has been with Lori. Afterwards we had dinner at Kitsch’n and went to Jen & Chad’s for a while.

On a side note, there was a pair of shoes I saw when we were shopping in Hawaii. They were also Rocket Dogs and had hula dancers on them and said “Aloha.” I didn’t buy them because I didn’t want to carry them in my luggage and then when I got home I looked at them on Zappos but I didn’t know if I still liked them or if it was a “vacation mode” thing. I saw them when we visited DSW and I really did like them, but they didn’t have my size. I went home and Zappos had one pair in my size left, so I got them.

On Tuesday we had a FeedBurner company outing at Ravinia. The Robert Cray Band and Buddy Guy were performing that night. Ravinia is always nice and relaxing… Thousands of people all gathered in one place to sit out on the lawn, have some drinks, eat some great food, relax, enjoy each other’s company and listen to great music. This time was no exception.

After a day of packing, or telling myself I should be packing when I was procrastinating and doing other things, we met up with Dallas’ Uncle Dee, who is visiting on business from Kauai, and drove out to South Elgin for a family barbecue. It was at Dallas’ Uncle B and Auntie Glenna’s house right on the Fox River. Gorgeous. It was nice to see everyone again and nice to see Dee, since we hadn’t since our last Hawaii trip. Also, Doug & Naoko had a baby, Tommy, about a month ago and we finally got to meet him. You can barely see Heather holding him in these photos. Here’s a better one, if you’d like to take a peek. He looks exactly like Doug.
