The Packers Won On My Birthday

The Packers kicked off the NFL season this year by taking on the Saints at Lambeau Field on my birthday. A few friends and I met up at Logan Bar & Grill to watch the game. This is probably the sportiest of the bars in Logan Square. We don’t really have sports bars here. The weather was on the cooler side, but nice, and it started raining. Logan Bar & Grill had their doors/windows wide open and it felt really nice, without having to actually be outdoors.

The game was the first time since 2000 that the last two Super Bowl winners were matched up. Also, it’s the third time in four seasons that the Packers opened the season on national TV at prime time at home. No pressure, guys! The game was exciting and high-scoring. And, though I was a little scared on the last drive, the Packers ended up winning 42-34.

Also, Dallas flew to Las Vegas yesterday. I gave him $20 to put on the Packers at the sports bet. He added $30 and so we had $50 riding. If the Packers won by 4 points then we’d win $100. This was the first time I ever was cheering for the spread as well as a win! Kind of stressful!

Thanks to everyone who came out for drinks on my birthday! It was an exciting, but laid back night. … Just what I wanted.

Logan Square Neighborhood Walk: California Avenue

July 23rd, 2011 · 1 Comment

One day a few months ago, I was wanting to go for a walk, but wanting to go somewhere new. I used to do these “neighborhood walks” and post photos on this site, but haven’t done it forever. So, I decided that maybe over the course of this summer I will try to walk Logan Square. When you look up Logan Square boundaries, people have varying opinions. For this exercise, I’m going to go with these boundaries for the neighborhood: Diversey to the north, Western to the east, Armitage to the south and Pulaski to the West. However you classify it, the neighborhood is HUGE. So, I think if I do this I’ll have to break it up into a bunch of chunks. As the summer has progressed I haven’t done a great job keeping up on this project, but I’ll keep trying. Here are my photos from my walk on California Avenue from Armitage to Diversey.

Logan Bar & Grill

June 18th, 2011 · No Comments

We’re still kind of meh on the food at Logan Bar & Grill, but I think it has improved some since we moved in. I still think it’s a pretty space and a fine spot to get drinks and play pool. I like that they have a good amount of outside seating too.

Elevation at Logan Square Auditorium

February 9th, 2011 · No Comments

Elevation, Logan Square, Chicago

This disaster of a photo is Fake Bono on Mike Dunlay’s shoulders

Last weekend we met up with friends at Rocking Horse for dinner and then went over to Dunlay’s on the Square for a drink. One of our friends, Josh, owns a few popular restaurants in Chicago. One of his business partners is Mike Dunlay and it was his birthday, which is why we were out. After a drink at Dunlay’s on the Square we headed up to the Logan Square Auditorium where Mike had hired a popular U2 cover band called Elevation to play for the party. It was so much fun! And nice that we were just blocks from our house.

After the party, we wanted to go to Bonny’s, but it and The Whistler both had massive lines out the door. We stopped over at Cole’s, but it was super packed and sweaty. We had one drink and left. And then one more at Logan Bar and Grill, which was not busy or hard to get into.

Roundarch Holiday Party

December 4th, 2010 · No Comments

This year we had our Roundarch holiday party at Epic, just around the corner from our office. Epic is somewhat new, so I was interested in checking it out. Our party was held on the second floor, which also goes up to a dining area on a third floor. It was a cool space. For dinner the main dishes were short ribs and Hawaiian ono. Dallas and I were chuckling at all the people who didn’t know what ono was. Both entrees were really good. I actually preferred the short ribs. Like last year, I didn’t really take that many photos. I had a fun time socializing with my coworkers and their plus ones. At about 11 or so we decided to go. We had a big weekend ahead of us and didn’t want to blow it all on Friday night… at least that was the plan…

On the cab ride home I was falling asleep. Just as we were pulling up to our major cross streets, Paul Baker texted me that he was a block from our house. We jumped out of the cab and he and Kate were standing on the corner. We ended up having a drink or two with them and closing down Logan Bar & Grill! So much for going home early, but it was fun to see Paul and Kate again.
