Loden scoped out a free class at Gymboree and invited Makai and I to join her and Ellyza at the class. We had brunch at Bakin’ & Eggs. The food was only ok, but the good part was that pretty much every table had at least one young child, so if your baby made a fuss, no one noticed. Ellyza was perfect, but Makai was a bit fussy. I don’t think he had a good morning nap. The class was pretty laid back. There were six babies total, but Makai was the only boy! Ladies man. He was more interested in what everyone else was doing and in looking at the instructor than anything I was doing! He still seemed to have fun, though.
In case you’re wondering, YES, Ellyza is on the small side and Makai is on the large side. I think around the time this photo was taken Ellyza was weighing about 12 pounds and Makai was about 17. Ellyza is just five days older than Makai.

Yesterday Makai and I went over to visit with Loden and Ellyza. Since I’m finally starting to feel like myself again I got brave enough to go on a day when Dallas was at work and I’d have to do everything myself. It was my first solo outing in the car with the car seat, just me and Makai and it felt like a big accomplishment!
Ellyza was born five days before Makai and is such a cute little peanut. Makai weighs a few pounds more than her, which really makes a difference when they’re only eight weeks old. It’s not like he’s a total fatso, he’s just bigger overall. Like Ellyza’s length right now is how long Makai was when he was born. She’s petite and he’s big, but they both have huge heads in the 97-98th percentile for each!
I’d visited Ellyza once before but she was sleeping and she was at our house once, but I don’t think either of the babies knew it. So cool to finally get them together when they’re both awake and could look at each other. They even held hands, which I’m sure was just their grip reflexes, but it was still cute. Can’t wait until they can actually play together!

Hash is a new-ish restaurant that opened on Western in Wicker Park/Humboldt. Loden and I went a couple weeks ago to check it out. This restaurant specializes in hash – you know, chopped up meats and veggies fried up with potatoes and eggs and stuff like that. And Hash is Loden’s favorite, don’t you know!??! It’s a cute little restaurant, with lots of outside seating, though we didn’t take advantage because it was hot out. We ordered the counter and then sat ourselves at a small table inside.
Loden got the Pork Bubble and Squeak (Pork shoulder, sweet potatoes & brussel sprouts served with mustard cream sauce) and I got the Humboldt (Fried plantain, black beans, hominy, cilantro, chihuahua & your choice of chorizo or soyrizo served with salsa verde). I also added avocado for a buck, but never got it. Even when I went back up to the counter and told them and they said they’d bring it right out. Whatever. We both liked our food, but didn’t think it was like AMAZING.
