Cermak Fresh Market

Checkin’ out the new store!

Produce as far as you can see!

A lot of rosemary for the price, compared to other stores!

Digital price tags.

Lots of meats. Good prices. We bought this al pastor.

So many different house-made sausages!

On the left, an entire aisle of beans.

A good selection of Polish and Serbian foods.

Lots of areas you can get freshly prepared food: a grill, a taqueria, pizza, sandwiches, gelato, etc. Also an area to sit and eat.

Dallas grilling the wings and al pastor.

We drove by Cermak Fresh Produce one of the times we looked at the house before we bought it. So, we finally decided to give it a try. Dallas is obsessed! The produce section is massive and the prices are great. The meat department is also huge. We got the al pastor and wings to grill. Tasted amazing. Will be back often!

Vodka Lemonade Declared the Official SoR Drink

Vodka Lemonade, Village Tap, Roscoe Village, Chicago

On Friday night I invited people to come out to Village Tap for some drinks & dinner. I then declared that vodka lemonade is the official Summer of Rachelle cocktail. Can you think of a more summery drink? About a dozen people showed up and most of them had at least one of these signature cocktails.

My second day in New York I was supposed to meet Jeannette & Mark in Hells Kitchen for lunch but I accidentally took the wrong train out of Hoboken, where I was staying with Jessica, and ended up at Pavonia/Newport farther in to Jersey instead of Christopher Street in Manhattan. By the time I got on the right train, got to Christopher Street and took a cab up to meet them, I was like a half hour late. But we still had time to grab something to eat at Turkish Cuisine on 9th Avenue.

After lunch I walked past my old apartment on 9th Avenue. Some things remain the same there, but there are many new restaurants and places that weren’t there when I lived there. Like my apartment entrance used to be between West Side Sushi and Gotham Cabinet and Craft.. but now Gotham Cabinet and Craft is gone and the space it was in is empty. I wonder what will go in next. Just so Seven Brothers is still there.. I used to go to that deli every single day.

Next, I considered going to MOMA, but Jess was getting off work early and I wanted to meet up with her, so I just walked through the park a little bit. I think I will forever and ever be in love with Central Park.

Then I went downtown and since Jess hadn’t eaten anything all day, we went to Cafe Borgia on Prince Street in SoHo. I wasn’t hungry, really, so I just had some lemon sorbet in lemonade.

Yesterday I went to WI to celebrate my birthday with my family. We grilled out and then went to a festival in Wauwatosa, Tosafest. My niece, Stephanie, was extremely psyched to run a 1/2 mile “Kids Fun Run” but some idiots put the wrong time on the website and we arrived right when all the kids were running in with their free tshirts and ribbons. It wasn’t a great situation and Steph was pretty upset but that was solved by treating her to fresh squeezed lemonade and some time in the kids play area. Later on – dinner at Applebee’s. Thanks to my parents, Aunt Sue, Nancy and my brother’s family for the gifts!
