This past summer I rode on the lakeshore bike path a lot. One day I noticed a small path leading off and I rode down it and into Olive Park. I’d never noticed it before but liked it quite a lot. It is kind of out on a peninsula and you can look out over the lake and back at the city. I liked the view, but the park itself is small and quaint and quiet and I can’t wait to go back and spend more time there in the spring.
Online I found out that the park is named after Milton L. Olive III who fought with the army in the Vietnam War. Olive was killed when he jumped on a live grenade to save some other soldiers. He was the first African American Medal of Honor recipient of the Vietnam War.

Last night I rode my bike home up the lakefront path instead of going up Wells to Lincoln. It added some time onto the commute, but the green grass and trees and blue sky and water were much more relaxing than the traffic on Lincoln.
Does anyone know anything more about the giraffe statues (last photo) that are on Roscoe St.?

Yesterday morning the weather looked great so I went to check out North Avenue Beach. It’s the first of Chicago’s city beaches I’ve been to. But then it started raining and the weather was really temperamental so I only stayed about an hour or so. I can’t wait til the weather is nicer so I can go back again.
