Birthday Barbecue

September 9th, 2012 · 4 Comments

For my birthday we had a barbecue. Everyone ate too much and drank too much and had a great time!

Richard pretending to photobomb Dallas, Killian and Ed.

Jill visiting with Liz while Dallas tried to get Fiona.

Raiden is just a few months younger than Fiona. They’re both so big compared to when I last saw each of them!

Feedburners reuinite! Chris, Paul, Lisa, Kate, Rachelle. Alden shouldn’t be so late or he misses out on photo ops like this!

Dallas grilled up a ton of kalbi. We thought we had way too much but people were fighting for the last rib! We also made about five pounds of slow cooked pork with Dallas’s famous blue cheese coleslaw.

Richard and Ed stealing ribs fresh off the grill!

Kate and Brett.

Dinner!

Dylan and Quinn making forts on the couch.

Could Fiona’s eyes be bluer? Just like her mom.

Chris and Lisa brought this Achatz Handmade Pie. Grant Achatz did not make this pie, but his cousin did.

This was the crumb-topped Michigan 4-berry pie, their signature pie. They use locally grown tart cherries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries. It was so delicious. Chris said pie is a family tradition. He and Lisa also gifted me a pretty pair of earrings that I wore to work on Monday. They are so nice and thoughtful friends.

Ed (chef/owner of The Baked Escape) also brought some delicious desserts – white chocolate raspberry swirl cheesecake and caramel pumpkin pound cake!

And here is Ed making Rory cry.

Killian gave me Easy Feet! I don’t know if he’s implying I’m too old to bend over and wash properly or if I have super nasty toes! According to the infomercial, “it’s like a carwash for your feet!”

Me with Andy and Katie.

And Alden!

And Trent and Loden!

Trent was digging around in the cupboard for shot glasses and I busted out laughing when I saw he was using a votive for a shot glass!!! Gotta do what you gotta do!

Loden, Kelly, Brett, Rachelle.

Time for bed!!! (Thanks, Damian for the wine and this Askinosie chocolate bar!)

Retro on Roscoe

Cousins! Halle & Quinn

Halle, Brian, and Jill

Ed giving Quinn a drink (that he doesn’t want)!

Bridget, Maggie, Conor and Liam trying not to fall off the hammock.

Rory, Jill & Halle

Halle said, “Rory is cute!” She was having a great time playing with him.

Conor didn’t want to smile. He was busy eating his pineapple!

Cousin playing beer pong …..

…. and sinking it in Chad’s cup, to his astonishment!

This is at least the 6th year that I have gone to the Retro on Roscoe street festival. Chad and Jen had their annual party and we came and went from the festival. Dallas and I were more than a little bit tired from the Crosby’s opening the night before, so we were way more chill than previous years. We still had a great time, though. Like other years, there was a lot of beer pong being played in the garage. I played 2 games, but not very well. At the fest, there were a lot of 80s cover bands playing. One crazy thing this year is that Roscoe Village Neighbors association is now asking $10 per person to get in. It all goes to a good cause, the schools and improving the neighborhood, but wow, that’s double what other street fests charge. At about 8:30 I was so done! I went home and couldn’t even watch one TV show without falling asleep. Long day! (And long night the night before!)

Previous visits to Retro on Roscoe:

- 2008

Summer Sessions on the Square

June 25th, 2012 · No Comments

On Saturday we invited some friends to join us for Summer Sessions on the Square. This free event happens on the last Saturday of each month, all summer long. Everyone gathers at Logan Square and bands play while everyone lounges around picnicking and drinking, kind of like Ravinia Light. It’s very family friendly and always has a great turn out. On Saturday Jen, Chad, Quinn, Loden, Trent, Jill and Ed joined Dallas and I on the square. After the music ended we all headed to Ed’s house, because he only lives a block away. Such a fun, relaxing night. Though, I did drink waaaaay to much wine. I was definitely paying for that on Sunday! Still, I’d do it again! :)

The Cubs Are a Good Mid-Week Distraction…

Penalty: Too many men on the field!

even if they did lose. Jen and Chad invited us to the game, but Dallas had plans so Jill was my date. Chad and I got the yummy grilled hotdogs from the good vendor with the grilled onions. I haven’t had a dog at Wrigley for probably a few seasons. It was delicious.

Easter Dinner With The Webers

Reese, Halle, Quinn and Kristin

For Easter this year Brian, Chad, Dallas and Trent went to the Cubs game while Jill, Halle, Jen, Quinn, Loden, and I headed to Kristin’s house. Kristin’s family was also in town from Galena to celebrate. Before we ate dinner, Kristin had an Easter egg hunt in the backyard for the kids. Quinn proclaimed that it was too easy, but Halle and Kristin’s niece Reese are a few years younger than him and it needed to be easy! Kristin’s other niece Macy was there too, but she is only about a year old and a little too young for the egg hunt.

For dinner we had salad, carrots, asparagus, au gratin potatoes, croissants, four different kinds of pierogi, ham and two different kinds of Polish sausage. We ate and ate and then sat outside and enjoyed the sun. Kristin played ball with Quinn, Reese and Halle. Later on the guys came over from the Cubs game and gorged on leftovers. Then we all had dessert: Lamb pound cake, blueberry pie, apple pie and ice cream. Delicious! This was our second Easter at Kristin’s, though I do remember having Easter dinner out at her parent’s house once. Always so good!
