Goodbye Cory & Chris

October 10th, 2011 · No Comments

The truck was just a little bit gigantic!

Cory, Chris & Aunty Laura strategizing.

Doug played a lot of box Tetris inside the truck. Danny did a lot of heavy lifting.

Tommy and Kenji had a ball running up and down the ramp. Look at mean Uncle Danny, though. He made them stop.

Meanwhile their brother Eddy chilled out with their grandma in the middle of the chaos.

Full truck. Time to make some tough decisions about what goes, what stays! Doug, Kevin, Chris, Steve

Eddy was born in January, Tyler in August. So much bigger than even a month ago!

Cory & Me. Some family members wouldn’t talk to me with that shirt on, but the game was that night!

On Sunday Cory and Chris had a Load The Truck/Moving party. Chris got a job in Vail, CO and actually left more than a month ago to work there. In the meantime, Cory packed up all their things. Chris came back this weekend to get her and all their stuff. They rented a truck and are driving out to Vail with their dog, Zoe.

I arrived to the party about an hour late and thought I would have missed a big chunk of the loading, but the truck wasn’t even there yet! And there were only about 8 people and 3 of them were pregnant (Caroline, Toni, Chris’s sister)! There was so much stuff, I thought we would be there all night. Slowly people showed up, all hoping they’d missed the bulk, but they did not! Aunty Laura said that is how the family works, but reminded me that Cory is a part of the family too and she knows that about everyone! haha. It turned out that everyone did their fair share of heavy lifting… well, except the pregnant girls, babies, and older aunties.

Dallas was on a flight to South Carolina for work, so I was there on my own and was willing to do whatever I needed to. Cory helped us when we moved to Roscoe Village and she and Chris have helped us with other things on numerous occasions, so we owed them that. Luckily it went pretty fast once we got going. I don’t think everything made it into the truck, though. I was sort of hoping the bike roof rack wouldn’t make it or this cool trunk they have wouldn’t and I’d be forced to take it for…. safe keeping.. but alas, those things fit in. They’ll be towing a car on the back of the truck, so hopefully they can fit some things in there too.

After the moving was done, we all had dinner. Aunty Laura made a whole spread of her famous flank steak, chili, salad, mac n cheese, cone sushi, char sui, and all sorts of things. Naoko made an Italian cream cake and like always, it was delicious!

Good luck, Chris and Cory! You guys will be missed!

This past month marked my 3 year anniversary at Roundarch and this was my 4th Roundarch Summer Event. How is this possible? I went to the first event before I even started! (2010 Summer Event, 2009 Summer Event, 2008 Summer Event).

This year was a bit different than previous years in that it was smaller and it all took place in one day. Usually everyone from every other office – New York, Denver, Boston, and various other locations – flies into Chicago for a huge 2-day event. There would be practice meetings all day Thursday, a party all that night, and then the next day would be an all-day company meeting. This year we had two meetings on the same day – one in Chicago and one in New York. East Coast people flew into New York and others flew into Chicago. We had the meetings and the party all in one day. And it didn’t go late, which was good for me, because I had things I needed to get done that night!

Overall, it was still a great party. I didn’t win anything, but it was nice to hang out at the Paris Club and eat delicious food and spend time with my coworkers, not working. That’s not to say we didn’t have hours of meetings that day, but it was a good change of pace.

Last week Roundarch had it’s annual Summer Event, which consists of an all-night party and an all-day meeting with everyone from all of our offices in town to attend. It was great to see everyone that I work with in other offices and the party was so much fun. And the after party. The after after party, I can’t say… I went home at 2 and others were still going out for more! As for the meeting, it was actually pretty entertaining… not like the dry all-staff meetings I was used to at other places I’ve worked. Great event, Roundarch!

After Christmas morning and lunch at my brother’s, Josh came and got me and I went to their house for dinner and a gift exchange. I hadn’t seen Riley since her baptism and while she’s still tiny, she looked a lot bigger than last time!

Today’s was Riley’s Baptism in Brookfield, WI. My brother came down and picked me up this morning then we went with his family and our parents to the church. Riley is so cute! And so tiny! When I saw her for the first time I asked Nancy if she had put hair product in her hair since it wasn’t all sticking up like the photos I’d seen before.

I was kind of stressed out about what the sponsors would have to do during the baptism ceremony, especially since there were about 500 people there, but it turned out not to be too bad. Also, Nancy and Josh belong to a sort of progressive Lutheran church so the service went by quickly.. not too much old fashioned preaching, a lot of singing with a band. They even had a big screen where they Power Pointed out the entire service, along with song lyrics. So they didn’t need any heavy hymnals or books.

After the church service my brother and dad fretted about not being able to watch the Packer Game (they actually won!) while the rest of us had lunch and watched Nancy, Josh & Riley open their gifts. It was good to see all of Nancy & Josh’s families again. I feel like some of them are my extended family.

Later on Amanda had to go to work, but the rest of my family rode down to Chicago. We had dinner at Penny’s Noodles and my 8-year-old niece impressed us all by eating her entire meal with her chopsticks. I don’t think I learned to eat with chopsticks until I moved to California in my early/mid-20s.
