Chad’s Birthday

May 16th, 2010 · 1 Comment

Last week was Chad’s birthday and he invited everyone out to The Village Tap. When we arrived I thought maybe I was at the wrong party. That’s a lot of toddlers for an adult party. Then I remembered. We’re old. Haha.

It was fun to have Quinn, Conor, Liam and Halle at the party.

Notice how Conor is eating his dinner and being good.

And Quinn was wiggling and giggling. And giggling. And not eating.

Who do you think he’s looking at in these photos?

Of course, Dallas.

Dallas is very popular with the under 6-years-old crowd. He isn’t exactly the best influence, though. Don’t sit down and eat nice. Only eat french fries. He also taught Quinn how to yell “Birthday Boats!!!” at everyone, meaning that they should go to the gambling casino boats for Chad’s birthday. Then if that wasn’t enough Dallas and Ed showed him how to make a hand motion like he’s shaking dice and say “Shake’em, shake’em, shake’em!!” But they do love him. And Chad and all the guys thought that gambling bit was pretty funny, too.

Even the babies like Dallas. Halle was getting fussy because it was nearing her bedtime but she quieted up when he held her and bounced her around a bit.

Meg made a birthday cake for Chad. Here’s Elisa and Meg lighting the candles.

They only had about half the candles needed and the cake was already a fireball. Good thing they didn’t have a candle for every year. :) You’ll notice part of the cake is missing. That’s the cake the kids had after dinner, before they were sent home to bed.

I realized when I got home that I had no photos of the birthday boy. Then I saw a few black photos at the end. I tried to take a photo of Chad blowing out his candles but they didn’t turn out… here’s some photoshop magic I did to reveal the picture. Not great, but there’s Chad.

Or the ghost of him or something.

Happy birthday!

On Saturday night we went out to celebrate Kristin’s birthday. We started at Frasca Pizzeria and Wine Bar where we had many glasses of wine and beer while enjoying olives, different kinds bruchetta, and fancy pizzas. We also had cake that someone brought. The cake had these ginormous mounds of frosting on them that were supposed to be balloons, but that everyone referred to as “the gonads.” They made the frosting part of the cake the tallest. Aside from the dining areas, Frasca also has a really large bar area and we stayed there enjoying ports and other drinks until they closed.

After Frasca we went to Cody’s Public House, a really cool neighborhood bar. A lot of people played pool and darts. I’d never heard of the place before but I really liked it. It’s a lot bigger inside than it looks outside, it’s dog friendly (I saw two dogs inside), really casual, there are many dart boards, and I heard that in the summer there’s a really great garden area with cornhole and bocce ball.

Yesterday was Riley’s 3rd birthday party. Last year at Gymboree was pretty intense, but this year was about as chill as you could get with 20 kids running around. There was one of those tube playland things with the tub of balls like they have at the McDonald’s playland, so the kids were pretty contained in there. It’s interesting to see some of the kids growing up when I only see them once/year. I guess it’s a combination of that, and seeing kids that I’ve seen grow up through photos of Nancy’s. Then I see them for real and am calling them by name and they’re like “Mommy, who’s that crazy lady?”

Here are photos from Riley’s 2nd birthday and some from her 1st birthday. She’s getting big!

Ken Finally Gets Lucky

Last night was our division’s holiday party at Trader Vic’s. I’d never been there before but I was kind of glad to go because it’s closing down in January. The Harry Carray restaurant group bought them and they’ll be relocating. In the space that’s Trader Vic’s now, in the Palmer House, there will be high-end shops not to accomodate tourists, but to support all the people that are moving downtown.

As you can see from the photos, everyone was pretty drunk and had a good time. And most everyone wore the coconut bra at some point during the night.
