Just a couple photos I snagged while the professional wedding photographer was lining everyone up outside of the Columbia Yacht Club to take photos. Funny story about the last photo: One of Killian’s aunts from Ireland asked Dallas if he was the one from Hawaii. He said he was and then she asked if she could take a photo of him. And then after she did I made her take another one of us using my camera. It was so windy and hot and humid that day, I don’t feel like I’m lookin’ my best, but I really liked the color of my dress.. which the Irish auntie also commented on.

One Night in Greektown

August 26th, 2006 · 12 Comments

So annoyed right now! I just lost some really cute photos from last night. I thought I was deleting a couple repeat photos and I accidentally deleted all of them. … and then I was getting a disk space error so I emptied the trash. Woot whoa. Allison and I went to Greektown, which I’d never been to. Before I worked in the West Loop it just seemed out of the way and there was no reason to even go through it unless you were specifically going there.. and I just never got there. We went to Pegasus and sat on their “veranda,” which is their open rooftop. It was nice out, we drank some strong greek beer and shared some grilled shrimp skewers, a gyro, and a feta & olive plate. Afterwards we stopped by a cute greek bakery, but didn’t get anything, then somehow ended up at an Irish bar in Greektown? At the bar is where the cute photos were taken. There was this kid in there selling balloon animals and shapes. It was really weird. His mom was there too. Allison and I weren’t really interested in whatever their deal was but we had made friends with some 60-year-old man who was older than both of our fathers and he insisted on buying us balloons. So then the photos were of us posing drunk with like heart-shaped balloons and doing shots with weird balloon turtle bracelets. Oh well. It’s not often I lose photos, so I guess I’m pretty lucky.

Countdown to St. Patrick’s Day :: Cork and Kerry, Beverly, Chicago

I’ve never really celebrated St. Patrick’s Day. It’s a non-holiday to me. Oh, wait. I remember one time I celebrated St. Patrick’s Day in Coronado, San Diego. We drank beer and ate corned beef at Mc P’s, but it was more like Saturday night out and not going out to celebrate a holiday. And if you’ve ever been to Coronado, you know it doesn’t exactly scream “Irish Neighborhood!”

Anyway, St. Patrick’s Day in Chicago this year is a week-long celebration. The parades are this weekend and the actual holiday is next. Erin and Chuck had plans to go to Cork & Kerry way down in Beverly to drink some Irish beer but to beat all the amateurs who go out just for the holiday. They invited us to tag along. I’ve never been that far south in Chicago and they were telling me that this bar was the bar most like an Irish pub in Chicago, so I decided to go. Fun times. It took us forever to get there an back, though! Still, worth it for a good time out and to see Beverly. Big thanks to Justin for picking me up and driving and staying sober enough to drive home!

One other thing – Chuck is a huge liquor snob. Well, not snob, because I saw him drink PBR with breakfast today, but he knows more about booze than anyone I know. I asked him what kind of beer I should try out and there was one on tap called Smithwicks Irish Ale that he recommended. It’s black, almost like Guinness, so I was kind of leary because I would normally never get a dark beer, but I decided to try it anyway. It’s really light and tasty. Chuck explained all how the beer is made, but what I remember him saying is that corn syrup is involved in the making of the beer and it gives it a sweet flavor.

I love the way that the “F” word sounds when coming from the mouth of a cute Irish lad. Fook.
