Today my dad came down from Wisconsin and I surprised him by having breakfast ready when he arrived. We had Double Cinnamon French Toast, Fruit Salad with Honey-Lime Dressing, turkey sausage, and peanut butter cup cookies. Later on we went to Ikea. I needed to buy bookcases and realized that after I unpack my books from the boxes that they’re in I’d no longer have a living room table. My old table was two boxes of books with two shelves balanced between them. So I bought a table too. So far I only have the table assembled. Anyone want to help put together bookcases?

I Think We Can Fit More In, Ikea, Schaumburg, IL

Long ago in days of yore
It all began with a god named Thor
There were Vikings and boats
And some plans for a furniture store
It’s not a bodega, it’s not a mall
And they sell things for apartments smaller than mine
As if there were apartments smaller than mine

Ikea: just some oak and some pine and a handful of Norsemen
Ikea: selling furniture for college kids and divorced men
Everyone has a home
But if you don’t have a home you can buy one there

~Ikea by Jonathan Coulton

Last Tuesday, March 2, Nancy came down from Milwaukee and we took the UHaul that I had not yet returned to Ikea to do some shopping. This was my first trip to Ikea ever and it was just a bit exhausting. Each night for the past week now I’ve been assembling pieces of furniture. Soon I’ll post photos of each of my Ikea projects. Oh, and Kristin thinks that with the Uhaul I could have gone around the neighborhood and gotten paid to take orders from Ikea and make deliveries to my neighbors. Not a bad idea.

The Post That’s Being Forced From Me

March 4th, 2004 · 4 Comments

I’m in Chicago. Sorry for not updating. I can’t seem to shake this tiredness I’ve had lately and I don’t have an internet connection at home yet. The move went fine. There was nothing really exciting during the drive, which is good. Jessica and I stayed over in Toledo (craphole) and then arrived in Chicago at about noon on Sunday. We were greeted by my parents, my brother, my nieces, Nancy, Josh and my landlord. It was a bit overwhelming but I was grateful to have everyone there to make me feel at home and to help me unload and unpack. Unfortunately, Jess had to fly out early on Monday morning because of a family emergency. My parents stayed over Sunday night and on Monday we went to the supermarket and kmart to pick up all of the basic neccessities. On Tuesday Nancy came down and we went to Ikea. Furnishing a 2 bedroom apartment when you only had a single bedroom to yourself before is challenging but fun. These past few days I have been back at work. Figuring out the el. Discovering my neighborhoods both near my apartment and near work. I will try to post more when I get a chance.. but for now just know I’m doing well here.
