Last night I saw Fountains of Wayne at the Housing Works Used Book Cafe. Awesome band.. named after a lawn ornament store in Wayne, New Jersey. They’re a fun, poppish kind of band with whimsical but smart lyrics and some obvious old-time influences. Stacy’s Mom sounds like a Buddy Holly song. Opening for Fountains of Wayne were Jesse Malin and Amy Correia. I enjoyed each of their performances as well, even though Jesse’s hair was trying just a BIT too hard and the speaker box was in front of both Amy and Jesse’s heads so they were just headless bodies singing.
