Our first day of vacation we didn’t have any plans. I went to the gym in the morning and then we did a a lot of this:

The Royal Hawaiian property is behind the chain. You just walk up to the stand and tell the staff you’d like to lay on the beach and they set everything up for you. They get you however many towels you want and set up lounge chairs. If you want an umbrella they’ll set it up however you request. You can come and go. As long as you keep your towel on your chair then it as marked as “save seats” for the day.
In front of the chain is the public beach. Some hotels aren’t right on the beach so this is where all the people staying at those places hang out. There are no guys there to set up chairs or umbrellas for you.

There is a waitress who walks around Royal Hawaiian part of the beach and will bring you drinks or food, but alcohol is not allowed on the beach.

So we had to get up and walk 5 feet to the Royal Hawaiian Mai Tai Bar that was just behind where we were sitting. It’s a rough life.

Dallas loves Hinano beer. It’s from Tahiti and you can’t get it in Chicago so he drinks it a lot in Hawaii.
I got this foofy drink. It was called Chi and was made from coconut, muddled basil leaves, fresh pineapple, pineapple juice, and Maui’s Ocean organic vodka. Diamond Head (the volcanic cone/mountain) is never out of sight on the beaches of Waikiki.

For snacks we had cone sushi and fresh pineapple. Then we went back to the beach.

Wouldn’t it be cool to go up on Diamond Head and see the view of Waikiki from there instead of always just looking at it from the beaches? More on that later.

The beach here was so shallow you could walk and walk and walk and still touch the sandy ground. I thought maybe this was some kind of man-made feature for safety and enjoyment of tourists.. that maybe Hawaii dumped sand to make it more shallow, but Dallas said that was ridiculous and that it’s natural.

“The Pink Palace of the Pacific” looked so pretty from the water’s edge.

We lounged all day, going from the laying in the sun, to playing in the water, to drinks at the bar. Lather, rinse, repeat.
