All-You-Can-Eat Red Alaskan King Crab Legs

I’ve been to Glenn’s a few times before, but never on a Tuesday night when they have their all-you-can-eat red Alaskan king crab leg special. Until this week, that is. On Tuesday I met up with Erin and Cinnamon for drinks and dinner at Glenn’s and it was fabulous (both the ladies and the food!).

I mean, seriously. The crab. The legs. They were so big. I don’t even know what to say. I never want those wimpy crab legs you get off a crappy buffet ever again. I mean, they taste good but all that work for nothing. These crab legs were like fist fulls of crab meat. So rewarding and not much work at all. Plus, while I was waiting at the bar for everyone to arrive I made friends with the executive chef. He didn’t know much about wine, except how to pour a lot of it into a glass and he gave us each a glass on him when we each arrived. I think he felt bad because they were pretty packed on account of the crab leg special. I didn’t mind waiting anyway. Erin and Cinnamon and I always have tons to talk about. Throughout the night, though, the chef came by a few times to make sure we were doing well. He said that they break even on the crab special (it’s about $30/person) after you’ve had about 2 of the huge legs and then after that you’re “breaking the bank.” I had 3 legs, I believe. I could have maybe had one more.

Cinnamon, Erin and I ended up closing the place down and being the last to leave at 11 p.m. Time flies when you’re bitching about politics and the economy and swapping life stories! Till next month, girls!

Freaky Skies @ Glenn’s Diner

The sky was freaky that night that Dallas, Brian, Jill, Kristin and I went to Glenn’s. “The Best Food in the World” is what they claim to have, so it’s not surprising that they also claim to have the “The Best Shrimp Cocktail in the World.” It is huge, though. Like 2 people can share 1 shrimp.

Glenn’s Diner Seafood Restaurant

The last time I saw Rob was about a year ago when he was in town to do the race to Mackinac Island. He and Killian do it every year and this year he’s in town again for the same thing.

We all wanted to get together to go to dinner on Friday night while Rob was in town and Killian suggested Glenn’s Diner. I had never even heard of it but I was down for a low-key diner. Turns out Glenn’s isn’t much like a diner at all and that they specialize in seafood. Really good, fresh seafood.

The owner of Glenn’s, Glenn Fahlstrom used to be at Davis Street Fish Market in Evanston before he opened is own place. It’s obvious that he knows his seafood. We had blue crabcakes and seared scallops for appetizers. For our entrees, Liz, Christina and I all got the Pretzelled Walleye (encrusted with pretzels and pan fried), Dallas got the Kajiki Blue Marlin (chargrilled with creamy scampi sauce), and Killian got the Copper River Salmon (only available for 3 weeks each year). Everything was cooked perfectly. Dallas and I really enjoyed it, but we both love fresh seafood, so that’s not surprising. We’ll definitely be back.

Oh, and Glenn’s does serve breakfast (all day) and lunch. And one of the things on the breakfast menu that they’re kind of known for is the cereal with free seconds and thirds. So, they have all these cereals on display behind their bar.
